Basically, I ended up being able to open an account for my son at my bank, Benigo....

The interest rate is pretty low, but no fees and is linked to my account so I can easily transfer money at no cost online....

But I am thinking of opening another account, but dont know what type of account to open, and which bank to use......

I was hoping for something a bit higher in interest, and hoping for it to last until he is 18, not 13 like his current one....

I am tired of looking at pages on the net, I want some known info, from the source of people who use the bank, if you get me......

Any banks in Australia, preferably ones with locations in Brisbane (dont think Bankwest has a branch in QLD)....

Thanks

DD has a savings account with St George, she gets 5.7 % interest and I am pretty sure there are no fees, cant think properly at the moment... This is a special savings account that does incur costs if you make withdrawels..... It is linked to our account so we can transfer to it easily... It has DF and I as signitories on it so that even when she is old enough she still needs our permission to take money from it.... Our intention is for her to use it as a house deposit...

I just have an account in my name with ING. Thus it's attached to my bank account and the money just gets taken out each pay day. The interest rate is about 6.15%, I think.

ING is the best... Thomas's baby bonus's monik is doing so well there, he will be a very happy lad when he turns 18  :yelclap:

Our banking is with Suncorp Metway. With our savins/access account we can set up sub-accounts that have no fees and a nice interest rate (6.15%). You can set up as many sub-accounts as you like, and they have no minimum balance.

It means we can keep all our banking under the one account, but split our money into: savings for DS, bills, $ to pay off credit card...

I do the same. That account at the moment is for pre-TTC savings so I can afford maternity leave, later it will be for the child. I call it my Baby Bank. :)

we also have suncorp metway, as they have a great interest as well as bonus interest. DD1 also does school banking with a dollarmite account (commonwealth)

we set our girls up with happydragon accounts through st george and then linked them to direct saver accounts which pay 6.4%. We are signatories but the idea is not to take money out and with this interest rate then their future is looking quite secured,:)

Thanks ladies, I opened an account at my bank for him, but it is only 1.5% interest, no bank fees....

Just spoke to NAB yesterday, and they had 6.5%, so am going to visit the banks mentioned, and check out what they have to offer....

Cos the account he has is a pittance!!!!
