Hi, newbie here, first pregnancy :D

I went for my first dating ultrasound today and was told that I'm 6 weeks 2 days (although my LMP was 9 Dec) and my EDD is 30 September.

However apparently according to today's ultrasound, the foetal heartbeat is only 95bpm, shouldn't be more like 120bpm? the doc said not to worry and I have to have another ultrasound in a couple of weeks to check it again - but is this unusual, and what could it mean for the baby?

Another question, does anyone know where in Sydney's inner west I can get my ultrasounds saved to CD/ DVD? I thought this was done everywhere but the place I went today doesn't do it. I was really disappointed about that because DH couldn't come today, and all my family lives far away, so I really want the ultrasound images on CD/ DVD to show them.

thanks
Kimba

Kimba, I can't answer the heartbeat question but there is an ultrasound place in the Medical Centre near the RPA in Newtown/Camperdown (cnr Missenden Rd and Carillon Avenue) that records the ultrasound on video. We had our 12 week NT scan done there and the video is amazing.

Sydney X-Ray at Randwick puts it on CD for you - it was great, we made copies and sent them to family in England and such. It was also really good for printing out pics for the grandma's - i recommend them :)

Re the heartbeat: try not to worry! I was in the same boat with my first ultrasound at 6.5 weeks. And I was told that the heartbeat (98 bpm) was fine. Here's what I wrote on another thread at the time:

"Yes, the sonographer said that 98bpm is perfect for a bub at only 6 weeks or so - apparently, the heartbeat starts off around that rate, and then accelerates pretty quickly as the weeks go by. I also found a pregnancy website which gave heartbeat ranges for the early weeks of pregnancy. It was http://www.americanpregnancy.org/dur...evelopment.htm"

Unfortunately, there are some people who will insist that this is a bad result. (Actually, I left that old thread permanently following some alarming comments from one poster, who insisted that anything under 120 bpm meant that my pregnancy probably wasn't viable! I was so upset and worried as a result - it was awful. Had to leave BubHub for quite some time.)

Anyway, I can't give you any guarantees (who can??), but I can tell you that my pregnancy has progressed beautifully, and we're expecting a happy, healthy bub in 16 weeks' time!

Try not to worry and send your little bub lots of happy, positive thoughts.
