Hi everyone,
Just wondering if anyone knows of a good agency based around Brisbane? My daughter is 8 months old and we would like to try and get her into modelling,etc...
Thanks
:D :D
does this mean there are no 'good' agencies in brisbane??
We have looked into our (now) 12mth son joining a few agencies but they all want a couple of hundred $$ upfront, which we don't think is right. Shouldn't it go on a comission basis or something??? any help would be great. Thanks

I'm actually looking for some information about a legitimate agency for my daughter but there are too many horror stories on the net & too many up front fees that I am skeptical about every agency I look at. So much so that I am thinking about scrapping the idea all together but my MIL just keeps going on about it I wanna show her that I tried ;)
I haven't had anything to do with moddeling/acting industry for a number of years now, but I won't put my DD (16mths) in an agency (yet) for a few reasons . . .
A) The up front fee's of 'most' agencies is a complete wrought. They do not have the right to charge you a joining fee because they do TAKE COMMISION from each job. They disguise is as 'marketing fee's' - but marketing what? Not your child, it's to market themselves to more parents to get more joining fees!
B) Agents are notorious for not updating photo's so the 6mth old photo is not going to get your 10mth old baby any work.
C) I do not believe Brisbane has the amount of work to sustain the number of kids on agency books.
D) On a personal level - I cannot guarentee my child would behave at a casting call while she is so young, too many variables involved; bad nights sleep, ill, teething etc. She is a happy and very social child, but make them wait around for hours in a cramped room and things can turn!
And don't be fooled by the agency's talk about how much money your child might get paid. Sure national campaings pay well - but most of those are cast in Syd or Melb. Ask the agency - how many national campaigns have you cast from this office?? And just how much work do you actually have??
If I were to choose an agency, I'd go with one that wants a 'screen test' of my child first so I know they don't just accept everyone - they only want kids who are camera and people friendly.
I'd probably be prepared to pay up to $200 to join which should be paying for a photo shoot essentially (they should also accept quality photo's you give them). And I'd want to be able to update the 'head shot' photo on their casting sheet as often as I needed (it's all online these days anyway, not like they need to print anything).
There are a few other threads on here with great advice from others who know more than me.
But as to you original question - I don't actually know of a good child agency. But I would steer clear of the big ones that advertise a lot.

I have to agree with Shymmer:
a reputable agency doesn't charge to put your child "on the books". Some will offer a photo shoot which you have to pay for of course, but that is a separate charge, and shouldn't be compulsory.
Also, although I think my daughter is gorgeous, I'm her mum, so to put my child with an agency I would prefer they do the screen test, or even just take a good look at her, and then be honest- if she's someome they think will get work, they'll put her on the books (they're the ones who know what advertisers are after..), and if not, then what advantage is it to them if they do?? (That's why the others who charge a lot put everyone on- it's all about the money!)
With no fee charged, it's in their best interest to get your child work so that they make their money, but if you've had to pay outlandish amounts to get your child "on the books", are they really going to care if they get no work?? Not likely...
I've no personal experience with this in Australia, but I know for a fact that in the US and Japan, you don't even have to have a professional shoot done if you can provide photos that fit their specs (good even light, front on, etc) and you update them at LEAST every 6 months (more if you wish), and you definitely DO NOT have to pay an introduction fee, or whatever else they'd like to call it. And they don't just accept every child either.
This certainly doesn't make me an expert on the subject, but I'd be VERY wary of handing over wads of cash, even if they say you'll get it back after 12 months if they've gotten no work. (Another link on here talks about a lot of ppl getting the run around trying to achieve this...).
Anyway that's just my 2 cents worth.. :)
Hi, just thought that I would tell you that I found an ad for a modeling agency online, that is free to join. The site looks pretty good, it says on it that they are new and are taking models for free at the moment. I am not sure if I am allowed to mention their website here, but feel free to PM me and I will give you their website address. xo

We went with Kid Nation. We have been traveling along quite well with them.
We went and had a look at a couple of the other agencies around and well to be honest they were just not my thing. Our interview with the lady from Kid Nation was honest and open. I must have asked her 12 questions which she answered without hesitation. She was refreshing down to earth compared to some of the others we had visited hehe.
I also chose them as my friends son got a casting within his first month. However saying that my son was not chosen and neither was her daughter so i do know personally they don't "just accept" every child that walks through the door.
Cant hurt to give them a bell anyway. If an agency is funny about you asking questions then that is the time you should start thinking about walking away.
