I'm about to venture into the world of cloth nappies - towelling squares for now but might try some of the fancy ones later.
Do any shops stock fitted nappies or do they need to be ordered over the internet?
Can I wash the nappies in cold water after soaking in napisan or does it need to be hot to kill the germs?
Any other advice for a confused beginner??!!:o
Never, Ever soak the nappies in Napisan! It is highly unnecessary and can cause skin irritations especially for people with sensitive skin (eg babies!).
The other reason is that as a disinfectant it comes in 2nd best compared to sunlight (even when overcast).
Cold washing is suffice with plenty of line drying. Tumble drying is ok, but try to do as much line drying as possible. It will not only help to disinfect the nappies but will also help to remove any remaining stains.
There are some irl stores that sell MCN, although they're few and far between. There is a vast world on MCN on the net though. Have a look at OzCloth Nappies (http://www.ozclothnappies.org/links.html) for a list of irl and online stores (and also some other useful information).
My routine is putting the wet nappy in the bucket to dry pail, washing on cold then line drying. I do this with flats and MCN.

I have seen fitted cloth nappies (just the terry ones, will still need a cover and don't look none too absorbant) in K-Mart and I think there are some at baby shops, like where you'd buy cots and change tables and things, those kind of shops.
Welcome to the world of cloth - you'll get hooked!

Don't rush in and buy the cloth from any big department store like Kmart, BigW, Target, etc. They're crapola and will turn any "New To MCN" parent totally off MCN. In this case cheap means nasty

I wash on warm/hot, but that is because I line dry inside, and I'm washing for 2 so killing the germs is really important. but the rule is you need at least 2 of these factors Sun / Heat / Detergent. I see you are in Brisbane so you should have plenty of sunshine to do the germ killing for you :D
You definately don't need to soak in nappisan, in fact you really shouldn't, it's not safe to have buckets of water around bubba's, and not to mention the chemicals on delicate skin.
I found the best washing powder for us was the Planet ark Aware for sensitive skin, it's fragrence free and since switching I haven't had any stinky nappies, which can happen if the washing powder/liquid has a lot of fragrence in it.
Good luck with bub, using cloth is so much more fun these days!

There is indeed a nappy shop here, it is in Middle Park/River Hills area. Not sure if I am allowed to post a link but if you pm me I hope I can point you in the right direction.
