They just called wanting to speak with DP. He's not here, but I pointed out that it's Sunday!!! Anyway, they refused to speak with me about why they were calling. It's a JOINT ACCOUNT!! The guy said 'I can't disclose any information to anyone but the account holder' and I said 'I think you'll find it's a joint account, so you can speak with me'.

He says 'there is nothing on the system to indicate that it's a joint account.'

I said 'then why do I get statements sent out to me in MY NAME??!!!'

He says 'I'll just speak with **** through the week'

I said 'you won't get him during business hours and I'm the one who takes care of the accounts. If you can't even look on your system and see that you can speak to me, then you guys can just wait for the next payment.'

GRRRR!! Then I tried to call them back to just see if they would give me information on the account cos I know I'm a joint account holder. Get this - their business hours are 9-5 Monday to Friday................ so how the hell can they call ME on a weekend??????

They shouldnt ring on sundays, ge has never called me on a sunday. Sounds fishy to me actually i always ring back if i have a bank ring me there is no way i am giving out my info to someone on the phone like that!

I would be ringing them on monday and asking why they rang you on a sunday i know they ring up to 10pm during the week but sundays never, seems odd

Especially seeing as he refused to speak with me. Makes me think he wasn't sitting in front of a computer at all and he didn't have access to the information.

Strange...make sure you tell your DP to be careful if they do get hold of him thru the week. GE calls DH all the time (trying to get him to take out another loan/credit card with them  ) but they have never called on a weekend, not even a saturday.

I definatly be calling them first thing monday morning to find out if it was definatly them.

WE have had the same happen to us, they would call and ask for dh even though it was in both names but i called back and got a nice phone operator who explained that even though it is a joint acct they are only to speak to the primary holder only

The thing that peeved me would be they call in the middle of the day ask for dh i would tell them,he is at work never give them his number though, i would ask who's calling and they would say i cannot disclose that info until one day i cracked a feral at one sarcastic B*t*ch and she relented to tell me GE

Totally understand ur frustration

What's the point in having a joint account then? I called back and put in the card number and then my date of birth and the computer system gave me whatever details I wanted, so why can't a human being do that? And he kept telling me that 'there is nothing on the system to indicate that it's a joint account'.

Ooohhh..... I HOPE they call me back tomorrow :devil6:

This happens to me too ALL the time....and its always at the worst times too like if im feeding DD or about to put her to bed....no consideration at all even when they hear a crying baby and i tell them now is not a good time they continue with ...."for the security of your account, i'll need you to confirm your details" like they didnt even hear me! GRRR!!! :banghead:

Yep - and we sort of 'fell' into it. I had bought a bed from Harvey Norman the year before on interest free, and got given a payment book and had to make monthly payments on it. We thought this would be the same, and bought something else through Harvey Norman, expecting to receive a payment book but instead a credit card arrived. I know we're not behind on payments though - I'm the one that makes them. And when I called back and got the account details by the computer voice thing, it told me that the last payment -which was paid IN FULL- had been received. So if it's on their system, why are they calling us??

Drives me insane. I can't wait to get all these cards paid off, then the accounts will all be closed and I won't have to worry about the phone ringing anymore!

Are you close to having it all paid off? We have a car loan with them and ever since the loan got to $1000 left they have been calling DH trying to get him to take out another loan/get a credit card :banghead:

Nope still got more than $1000 left on it. It'll be paid off in the next 2-3 months though, but they don't know that. We normally pay MORE than the minimum monthly requirement too, so I honestly don't know what the problem is.

Dumb stupid bloody genie can stick his personal loans and credit cards up his lamp *stamps foot*

 Sorry to laugh, i used to work for good old G.E Capital Finance... and yep you are all right.

The are THE worst company to work for, and there customer service is on about the same level as how they treat there staff... they will do anything to give people credit, even if they are not exactly on good credit, then treat the people who cant afford to pay it back like ****... there staff turnover is appalling, they prefer temps and get rid of people coming up to 10 years.

Oh and dont get me started on there "prison" like regimes concerning breaks, time on the phone, how many calls to meet per day etc... i cant really say anymore incase i get done for something legal. But leaving that place 10 years ago was the best thing i did.. just ask anyone who has worked there.

So although not a great way to deal with Customers, you can kind of understand why. :(

I always have the same thing and they only want to speak to DH. I bet it would be a different story if we didn't pay up and they were chasing the money, I bet they would be happy to come after me then!

Anyways, they once rang us on the weekend and it was their telemarketing dept trying to get us to take out a creditcard or personal loan or something. I expect that's what it could have been about.

This is exactly why when anybody calls saying they're from a particular company, I call them back on a number that's been independently verified. You really have no idea who you were talking to today, Ange - and it seems odd to me that any business would call on a Sunday. very odd indeed. Be careful! :)

Oh GE are just useless. When I was overseas a couple of years ago they would call me at 3am wanting to discuss a new credit card. I told them numerous times how it was being diverted internationally and costing a fortune and that it was 3am. They promised to note it on the account and not call but there they were the next week bothering me again. It was a right pain because you always assume it is some sort of emergency to get a call in the middle of the night.

Anyhoo back to you... :o I would complain. As you are listed on the account and they would have done a credit check on you you are equally able to discuss this in length and the keep calling you could be defined as pestering. If they wish not to discuss the account with you they would be breaching privacy laws which entitle you to know any details held on your account. I would be asking them to remove you from any lists they have for mail outs and promotions and advising them if it continues that you will be speaking with the ombudsman. Mentioning the word ombudsman in most industries makes them go running because of the massive cost to the company everytime you speak to the ombudsman...

Ok - WELL!!

Just got off the phone from GE - according to their system it IS a joint account and I have full access to all details of the account.

There is no record of anyone making a call to us yesterday and our account is completely up to date etc.

So basically, some jerk tried to scam me yesterday  What do I do now? I've spoken to the people at GE and they've said that there was going to be a note put on my account about this and thankyou for letting them know. This sounds like nothing is going to be done about it!!!

What else can/should I do?

 I would just be aware of stupid low-lifes:mad:

And when a company rings they have all your details, and you can ask them for security checks etc.

I have had Westpac bank ring me, and say I am having problems with my account. I said which one? How much money is in it? and he was like, mmm give me your account numbers I will check?? I was like WTF  I do bank with you...NICE TRY!

You have to be extra vigalent. When important companies call (banks/finance/phone/power etc) I always take their name , and contact number and call them back. It cost more but its worth it.:fingerscrossed: Good luck hope it never happens again,

What difference does it make, who cares.?As if that is going to make any difference to anything. Then they want to know all your details for their stupid security check. And they always ring when you are busy.It makes me extra viligane to pay on time just so i don't have to endure one of their stupid phone calls!!!

I think rather than asking for a contact number from the person who has called you, just get an old statement or something and call the number on that. That way they're not just giving you their number to call back.

You can match the number they give you to the business number quite easily..
And getting there name just gives you a reference..

Its more so to catch them out should it be a fraud phone call.. Youcan garuntee they wont give you many details and will hang up the phone ending the conversation pretty quickly..

OMG Don't even get me started on ge capital finance:banghead: I had trouble with them as well. They said I was late in payments and were constantly demanding money while I was preggars with dd to the point I was that stressed to pick the phone up. I went through my accounts and it turned out I was actually ahead due to always paying extra a month. I went to see a legal person who threatened them with vcat and also demanded my $25 late fees they were charging be refunded or else we would go through vcat. SO they did and gave me a lower interest rate etc etc.

The staff were very rude threatened to take the vehicle and so much more. The fact was I wasn't even behind:shame: Never ever again will I go through them

14-08-2007, 06:15
Yeah, we've been through GE too, never again. We went though a rough patch a few years ago, and with 2 days of being overdue, they would ring me, curtly demanding why my payment was late (umm, I'm having financial difficulty, I told you that last time you called  ). The worst thing was if we were a little late, not only would we get a call, but after telling them when I would pay them and sorting it out, I would get a call from another operator 2 hours later asking why was my payment late... WTF, didn't we just go through this or is it groundhog day?? When i would ask isn't it on your system someone just called me and it's all sorted, they would say no, I don't see anything. And don't get me started about the time I come home from work to find about 10+ hang up messages on my machine, I found out it was GE

We are actually taking GE to court at the moment. A couple of years ago Dh and i were in serious finacial trouble. Dh had his car repossed, anyway it washis baby and we went to the auction to see how much it sold for

The final selling price at auction was $15,000 we only owed them about $10,000 on the car

They then rang troy the week after to tell him the car had sold for $8,500 and we still owed them $1,500! WTH

we told the we were at the auction and really they should owe us about $5,000 that they made profit.

Years later it is still in court and in the mean time Troy has been blacklisted on the credit rating and is still getting a phone call or 2 a week!

I also got the call, may I ask why you are late with your payment, hubby said it was just oversight, and then he asked why, ummmmm it was oversight, sorry! I forgot, we've had the card for about 4 years and only ever been late once, so surely they can allow us one late payment without 20 questions.

I got a laptop on interest free with GO (GE) and will be paying it off well before the offer expires. I refuse to deal with GE. They are unscrupulous and predatory as an organisation.

Harlequin

And remember if you get close to the end of the interest free period and its not paid off, pay it off with a regular credit card otherwise the interest will kill you.

I also previously worked for them in collections and we definately worked Sundays according to the guidelines you can call btwn 8-5pm. If you specifically asked not to be called at a particular time they can note that on the account and should be! I think it's unfair to genralise and say that they are all a bunch of ***#$^. If you are having financial troubles explain it to them in most cases they are obliged to delay your payment but u may still get charged a late fee. If your in serious debt they also have options to help you pay account off at a set rate. My advice to stop the calls is if you think you might be late call them. (They are not all in India, I was in Brisbane). Don't agree to a payment when they call you when late unless you will definately stick to paying on that exact day or they will automatically call u back when it hasn't been recieved. The case may have been with your Sunday call that your partner has another account with them that your not a joint holder on. Heaps of products are GE e.g Coles Myer cards, Kmart Source endless amounts it's not all just Creditline. If you have a late fee and its a once off mistake they are pretty good at reversing them for you if you ask. Just try and remember each operator is a different person and they are just doing there job. i worked there for a year as there hours were perect for me to stay at home with my kids during the day. they were very flexible with my hours and are very pro-active in helping mothers return to the workforce. They as a company also donate loads of monies to charities worldwide and do a lot for the environment. The collection centre based near my daughters school also volunteer there services at every school fete and helped to clear up the local waterways with the school.

I have never had a problem with GE, and we use them a lot. We always have two interest free purchases on the go at once, pay a weekly amount by DD (calculated to be paid in full by the time the interest free period expires) and don't hear from them at all. Not saying they are a great company, but in 8 years or so, I have never had an issue with them
