Just a quick question to mums who have had there bub at Sunnybank Recently, I had my DS there approx 17 months ago, i had my preadmission this week and was a little shocked at the changes,
No more Huggies - They only supplied cloth, No giant biggie I was using cloth anyway and will just take some disposibles with me.
More than 3 formula feeds of any kind - You have to provide your own formula, no biggie breastfeeding and only comped son on Paediatricians bad advice last time....Not too concerned.
Strict visiting hours during the day for DH and Children - noone there between 12-3 rest period, This is a bit of and issue because DH was just going to come up early arvo and spend a few hours and go home as we have 3 other children to bath feed etc....So not too sure now.
I am just very shocked at the changes in 17 months, even less I was there with my niece approx 11 months ago and none of these changes were in place???
Why the sudden changes, and are they very strict this time on the visiting hours if so I will be discharging myself as soon as I am mobile. I cannot think of anything worse than this really, Its getting back to olden times with family and practices.....
Anyone been there recently?
Thanks.
I haven't heard anything (and will not be changing hospitals ... my friend had a baby there two months ago - and still loved it) ..
I LOVE the cloth idea :D (you want sposies??? just bring your own .. as you are doing...) oooh a hospital encouraging cloth!! yay!!
as for the visiting house - I bet they are just being more strict during the DOCUMENTED mummy sleep time - I think its 12 till 3??? time that YOU are supposed to hvae with the baby ... it was stated when I was there last time .. its just that they weren't forceful about it (maybe too many people in shared rooms broke the rules??? others complained??)
either way - I'm not too worried .. I'll be chained to my bed for the 5-7 days (I LOOOOOVE hospitals ..) they will need a crow bar to get me out!

Hey Veve - do they have many shared rooms? I was thinking of going there for #3 (if I can convince OB) but would not be impressed if I had a shared room ....

I've been there - and have visited four friends there - no one was in a shared room ... we were told that if you DID draw a short straw .. and get a shared room you would be in it for a minimal time (while someome is discharged etc ... maybe for one night?) - I too would throw a hissy fit  not keen on sharing ...

Had my DD there 7 months ago and they still supplied huggies then. Although 2 years ago when I had DS they also supplied my maternity pads the whole time. They were strict on visiting hrs both times I was there but I was happy with this as I needed the rest. They have the longest visiting hrs I know. The wesley has quite short visiting hrs. My DH could be there all day if he wanted.
I loved the hospital and was lucky enough to have the huge room with the double bed both times I went.
Hi,
I am very interested in this, I am due to have bub there in 8 weeks. I have not had my preadmission as yet, but the info they sent out to me said that they supply all baby stuff and you only need to take stuff to take bub's home in.
Last time I was there (ok, it was almost 3.5yrs ago) they supplied all maternity pads, DH was allowed at any time etc.
Is there really NO visitors not even DH or kids allowed during the rest period now??
DH also wanted to stay over possibly, and wanted DD to stay with him. I guess this is out of the question?
Another quick question: Do you think they would allow DD and my Mum to wait in our room while I am having my c/s??
Thanks.

ok - when I was there in 2005 .. you didn't get maternity pads (I took my own)
DH can definitely stay (for a fee to cover his food .. etc) but the DD?? I dont think she can .. could she stay with your mum for a night or two??? would she think that was fun? or that she was missing out?
oh .. and about the waiting in your room? mum was in the birth room with me .. till the c-sect was needed .. when I came out of surgery - my mum, my dad and my husband were ALL in my room with Jack :) I was so happy to see them all .. I cried ..
hope that helps?

Thanks Jen,
Looks like I should pack extra maternity pads.
Yes, it might be possible for DD to stay with Mum, but Mum is 82 and althought a very healthy 82, it might be a big ask. We will see.
I am going to ring the hospital tomorrow and check further, but thanks for your help.

I just "got out" last Friday after having my baby girl at Sunnybank on 13 August. I have to give the hospital 11/10. They supply all the Huggies nappies you need and if you run out of maternity pads, just check the drawer next to the bed as there are a few in there. My room was kept spotless with fresh towels every day and an offer to change the sheets and vacuum the floor. The middies and nurses were amazing and on night 2 when I really needed some sleep and bub wouldnt settle, an angel midwife took her into the nursery and with my permission gave her 2 bottles so I could get some shut eye (we have continued breastfeeding and this didnt hamper it any way). Not once did they put pressure on me with regard to breastfeeding and neither did I feel like a "bad mum" for letting Molly sleep in the nursery for a few hours.
The nurses are strict with the resting period between 12.30 to 3.00 every day, but dads and grandparents are welcome - I guess as long as they keep the noise down! My husband and mum took turns looking after my toddler as they are definately not allowed to stay overnight, but husband can ($60.00 inlcuding dinner and breakfast).
I had Tom (23 months) at the Mater Private and could hardly fault them, but my word, Sunnybank Private has taken the cake and I'm certain you will have a wonderful positive experiance with them.
Oh, also there are only 2 rooms available with "shared" accomodation (and thats just 2 beds in each room, the rest are all private rooms and if you dont manage to get a double bed for husband to stay in, they have comfy recliner chairs that he should be able to get some shut eye in.
Best of luck for a happy healthy birth and baby!
