Hi Ladies

A friend of mine is getting married and wants to do it in Fiji with just her and her partner and perhaps a few close friends. She has seen the wedding package she wants but it unsure about how to go about anything else and I told her I have no clue either :o

For anyone that was married in Fiji can you tell me how you went about it? Marriage licences? Priest blessings (if it was Catholic) etc.

TIA

Heya... we're getting married in Fiji in October - only 9 more weeks to wait :smiliedance: :smiliedance:

We booked the holiday thru a travel agent, the resort we are staying at has wedding packages and with our package comes a co-ordinator. So once all was paid for I was given their email and phone details and have been talking directly to the co-ordinator...

So for us, we have to have birth certificates and passports and report to the registery office to lodge the intent to marry 3 days b4 the wedding.
If u've been married b4 u also need to supply the single status declaration.

Then its just deciding on extras u want, flowers, music, private dinner or reception, cake, location (as each resort should be able to offer a few different options) and I pre-booked my treatments and hair and make up for the wedding day..

Think thats about it - I've found it a breeze to organise, getting our passports has been the hardest thing - but thats another story

My Partner & I are getting married in Fiji in October (8 weeks until we leave) and we cant wait!!
My suggestion would be to go check out the travel agents and grab as many brochures as you can and decide on a few resorts you love then go back to the travel agents and see what their recommendations are and get them to do you a rough quote. Most resorts have wedding packages but you dont have to get married at the resort you are staying at.
We are staying and getting married @ the Sonaisali Resort www.sonaisal.com
We organised it all through the travel agent and are going back on Saturday to organise the wedding things eg date, what we need to take, book all the smaller things like hair/makeup etc.
My best tip is to organise your passports early as sometimes its not as straight forward as you think.
Like Jordy&jacksmum I have found it easy and stress free and have no regrets what so ever
PS we have both sets of parents staying in a dif resort for a few days to see us get married.

I got married at Sonaisali Resort :) It was great.

Actually, if you are familiar with 'Fiji time' you will know they are pretty relaxed over there... there were plenty of stuff ups with my wedding, so you want to be a fairly relaxed sort of person and be able to just go with it.

My make up person didn't arrive, so I just did it myself. The resort also forgot to organise my flowers so my 3 bridesmaids were sent running around the island picking flowers, they did a great job. Oh, and they had double booked the pool side bar where we were meant to be having cocktails between the ceremony and resort, so we had to change plans there too.

Seriously though, if all that stuff had have happened in Australia, most people would have been freaking, but honestly it didn't make an ounce of difference on the day (Well, my mum was ****ed about the double booking of the bar, but I didn't care!). It was so relaxed and wonderful those things didn't seem like a big deal. And it doesn't matter if you kick up a stink, the staff don't care so much either - they just don't see what the big deal is

On the upside, they also didn't charge me for my reception (30 people at $60 per head :o) - so I couldn't complain too much!

But yeah, I would do it again in a heart beat :)

Oh, and someone from the resort took us to get our marriage licence. I forgot my birth certificate and freaked that they wouldn't let me get the licence.. their response was "You need a birth certificate to make passport anyway - why worry?"

They are VERY relaxed!

DH and I were married in Fiji (The Warwick Resort - www.warwickfiji.com (http://www.warwickfiji.com)) 5 years ago and it was the best thing we have ever done (apart from having DD of course). We inquired about wedding packages in Fiji, then booked one and we were able to deal directly with the wedding co-ordinator at the Resort, which was great. I pretty much planned everything before hand. 2 days before we got married our co-ordinator took us to the registry office in Sigatoka. Everything ran so smoothly. In the morning we had a lovely buffet breakfast (with family & friends), we had a swim, then massages. After lunch we had a few drinkies, then I had my hair and make-up done and we were married at sunset. Dinner was in the restaurant near where we were married, which is like a secluded little restaurant on a small island type setting on the resort. It was awesome, perfect setting, lovely people, very romantic, highly recommend it

Photography can be added to your package but we were cheap skates. A friend of mine took photos, and another did the video  Mind you, if I was able to do it over again I'd pay the extra and get the professional photos done, because my friend didn't take enough photos IMO.

We took the photographer option in our package... it wasn't brilliant, but we got a nice little album out of it, and from memory it didn't cost too much.

We had 30 friends and family with us, we all stayed at Sonaisali for 7 days, we got married the day before everyone else left, and then had a week on our own at the Sheraton before coming home.

It really was the perfect wedding, pity the marriage was a big mistake!

We opted for a package that includes photography. We get 36 photos and all our negatives but have asked to upgrade to have more photos and atm i am arranging with the wedding coordinator via email to get a videographer as well so we can share our special day with our family and friends when we get back :) Will let you know how it goes when we get back...

Oh and my dress will be here on Wednesday!! :D Im starting to get really excited!!!!

I got married in Vanuatu probably very similar. Went on the net and chose a package connected to a resort we were staying ( one of the larger ones in Vanuatu) It included dinner, wine, flowers ( lays and crowns), a ceremony on the beach under a hut of hibiscus flowers, witnesses dressed in traditional costumes, celebrant.
FInd ut what they offer and prices before. Our costed $600, we paid $150 for a 10min video ( amateur) the lady who organised it took some pics for us and we did the rest. I got my hair done in town that morning anf bought a bouquet for $25.
We arrived 3 days prior to sign all the papers and meet with the organiser. She helped me dress and put flowers in my hair etc. I didn't have to worry about much.
Best day ever. No guests just some toursits on a beach clapping. We took our clothes and dressed traditional.
