Hi, can anyone tell me if Cephalexin is safe to take when breastfeeding to treat a cold which has been hanging around for weeks? Thanks.

It's perfectly safe. I am currently on it for mastitis.

However I should have added that your bub may end up with oral thrush from the antibiotics which is a hassle, so I wouldn't take them unless you have to.

Cephalexin is an anti-biotic and is used to treat bacterial infections. If it's just a cold, then anti-biotics won't really help. Colds are generally viral infections which anti-biotics don't really touch. Maybe you could try some over the counter stuff from the pharmacy first? The pharmacist will be able to give you info on what's ok to take while b'feeding. Hope you feel better soon
