Periods returned while breastfeeding?

Hi all

I had a little boy just over 6 weeks ago. I was lucky enough to have an easy natural birth and didn't suffer any complications. I stopped bleeding after three weeks.

Last Friday I started taking Noriday, the mini pill and for the past three days have been bleeding. It's too much to be spotting.

My question is (a) could my periods have started again already - despite the fact I am breastfeeding or (b) is it just a reaction to starting on the mini pill and if so, should I be worried and stop taking it?

I am waiting for my doctor to return my call but was told it was bedlam in the surgery this morning!!!

If anyone has any ideas/tips or advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

the same thing happened to me when i started the mini pill, my doc told me they just change it to a different one with a different dose of hormones in it.

i just started taking it again last nght, so hopefully it works ok for both of us!!

ps- i got my af 4 weeks after the birth, so you might have it back allready, but the pill can cause spotting...hope that wasnt confusing :o

I was exclusively breastfeeding my DD and my periods came back when she was 2 months and 1 week old! - what the?

I think everyone is different with their periods. I know a lot of people who didn't get theirs until they stopped feeding exclusively.

Could be either.
I didn't use the mini pill after having DD1 and had my period back within 5 weeks.
A close friend of mine got her period back as soon as she started the mini pill....but she'd have it one week on, one week off etc. so she stopped the mini pill and AF didn't return for a few months.

I didnt stop bleeding for 2.5 months after DS then it finally stopped and 2 wks later AF arrived and i was exclusively BF.. now i seem to get AF 1 wk here and there it is VERY annoying lol..

My period came 1 week after the post partum bleeding. I wasn't on the mini pill and WAS BF. I was a bit annoyed as I was under the assumption that it wouldn't come. Oh well, what can you do?

The same thing happened to me too. after 10 weeks I was still bleeding then it stopped and returned exactly 2 weeks later. Since then its been on and off...im exclusively bf as well.

Everyone is different though, I know someone who bf for only 2 weeks but didnt get her period until bub was about 10 months. And another woman was bf and didnt get hers for over 12 months. :eek:

Its the luck of the draw I guess...

Ah thanks for your replies ladies - they have put my mind at rest for now. Of course I never got a call back from my doctor today but I won't worry too much.

I was on the mini pill last year after my daughter was born but didn't have a period until I started weaning her onto formula at 7 months. I forgot to take them on a trip home to England and fell pregnant six weeks later!!!

How frustrating if they are back already!! I know they can be erratic being on the mini pill too. My hubby is not too amused :rolleyes: I have an appointment for my six week check on Tuesday so will run it by my Obs then.
