Did any catch the Weight Watchers ad by any chance? It shocked me quite a bit. large rate of Australian's are to be overweight. Really don't want my kids to be growing in that kind of environment. Even though i do give them treats quite often and the rare soft drink.
I think eating healthy is the major concern for Australia. We enjoy our fast food and take away food, anyone here tried WW before?
If you havent seen the ad can watch it here (http://www.letsgetstarted.com.au/).

Id rather follow the Healthy Eating pyramid than do WW.. (have tried WW and tried eating healthy, both seem to work the same! The points plan with WW is good (as you do not have to purchase any of their products.. I do like that)

Thanks, i might adopt these recipes in cooking for the rest of my family. anyone can follow the pyramid but it depends on how you prepare those foods. how would you deem yourself to be overweight?
um i would focus on everything in moderation, and staying active.

yeah that ad scared me, it's definitely made me think about the kind of food we eat sometimes, and how i can phase it out before ds starts wanting it!!
i can only imagine getting to the terrible twos, and him eating choccy and KFC[im the choccy, his baba is the KFC]
it would be a nightmare, imagine going grocery shopping with a sugar filled two year old
and i want my DH and i to be around for our grandkids, and to be able to run round and play with our babies :smiliedance: :yelclap:

i think healthy eating should be addressed at a early age. theres a large number of overweight kids out there and parents thinking that its rewarding to feed children oily and fatty foods. Other times just use fast food as a quick solution. Really have become a lazy nation.

Congratulations! Still yet to join Weight Watchers, but its good to know we have a leading company trying to address Australia's lifestyle. They've still got a lot of work ahead of them, don;t know people would resort to the extremes of surgery just to make themselves feel better, when moderate eating is the way to go.

keep seeing this commercial, makes me sick.

Its glad to see that theres a company that actually wants to address the issue. the ad stated that the government spends billions on the overweight issue, where does it go?
It's funny (but not), I was a smoker and not over weight ever before. Everyone harped on about giving up, there were commercial campaigns and on and on they went until I was guilted into giving up (I loved smoking). So now I have gained 15kilos (at least) post smoking (remember I have never been fat before) now I face the same thing again...you’re too fat, you’re a burden to the health system, etc etc etc....
While I make a conscious effort to eat well and I exercise every day (see reporting thread), I'm getting a little over being made to feel, less of a valuable society member every day...sorry for the rant....
In the UK, WW and gym memberships are subsidised on Medicare if you have a Dr's referral. Maybe that where we should be headed.

Ok, so don't watch the commercial while eating.
I have tried WW a few times but never stuck with it because I end up obsessing over every morsel of food, I don't think that is healthy.

Wow, that sounds awesome. I really think we should do that here as well. Just means more motivation. Not surprised it was introduced in the UK though.

Oh congratulations!!!
Ive just re-started my WW today. Im not going to meetings or anything. Just doing it myself. I want to lose 13kgs by Xmas. :fingerscrossed:
I agree the tv commercial is inspiring and scary all at once.
Weightloss def needs to be about a lifestyle change rather then a diet here and there. Its all in the mind set which can be very very difficult to change! I know!

I would agree that healthy eating and exercise are the best way to combat the overweight problem.
Companies like Weight Watchers and Easy Slim are great because they start to educate people about changing their lifestyle and a lot of people need to feel like they are part of a like-minded community to gain confidence. Some others can do it on their own.
Two and a half years ago, I weighed nearly 100kgs. After changing my lifestyle and exercise habits, I now weigh 54kgs. And that's after having my last baby.
Simply building exercise into my daily routine and changing my diet did this. And I feel that I'm setting an example to my kids because I have changed the families eating habits, too. DH on the other hand still sneaks chocky bikkies!!

WW does have a lot of success, what are the ways to judge if some one is overweight?
If you go to the WW webiste you can do your Body Mass Index (BMI) and that gives you a good idea about your weight in relation to your height. :)

thanks, how accurate is this?
yeah i've been noticing that ad on TV aswell. WW is great as well, its worked for me. The scale on the site isn't very accurate i must say, same goes for BMI.

Talk about ironic, Friday night is special treat Macca's night and as I was opening the ad Miss 2 came up to me and asked me for a bite of my banana. I said to her without thinking "No bubby, you're about to have McDonald's for dinner" :hair:
For the record half of my banana disappeared.

Why isn't it accurate?
BMI is a poor measure of true weight, as you need to have a body fat measurement as well.
Its simplistic to say someone is over weight just because the have a BMI outside a certain range.
I am sure most body builders would classify as obese by that standard.

Completely agreed. Australia definitely does have a problem. We just have so many varieties of food to choose from out there. It makes it so hard to decide which brand is better than the other.
My dietitian recommended that I use a website called www.eatingsafe.com (http://www.eatingsafe.com) because you can compare supermarket food online. I was a little sceptical at first because I'm not one to spend all my time on the computer, but when I realised how easy it was, I couldn't believe my luck.
I suggest more people use this site! I'm now managing my OWN lifestyle and don't need to rely on weight loss programs. At the end of the day, it's up to you!
