Hi
this is aimed at any prospective mothers in northern tasmania. I have an 11 month old and am stating to think about no. 2  . However the obstetrician we had for no 1 is no longer taking on obstetric patients, another obstetrician has just moved away, and the third and final option is theoretically doing obstetric work but can't take on everyone, and is rumoured to be moving over to the public sector and only taking patients through the hospital.
I am really frustrated to have paid for private health cover and have effectively no private obstetrician available. Is anyone else concerned about this situation?

Hi, I'm from Brisbane, but it is concerning. I found it difficult to get the OB I wanted at 7wks!!

Its all about indemnity insurance and OB's can't afford the insurance premiums or they are so expensive no one can afford to go to them.

The OB I went to (Loved him...I would recommend him to anyone), charged $1600 out of pocket for the insurance. I nearly died at the time but it was worth it. There is no way I would go through the public system.

So I do find it concerning, as considering how many OBGYN's are giving up obstetrics, we at some point may have no choice but to go publicly.
