:(
What can I do about my back? I'm nearly 17 weeks, and it's been KILLING ME for the last 2 weeks.
Are there any remedies, stretches, things I can buy?

You could try a Physio/Chiropractor/Osteopath might help depends on what the cause of the pain is?

Be sure to concentrate on correct posture and try to stay off your feet as much as possible.

I found that I had a sore back aorund 16-20 weeks with Millar. It went away after that:) Hopefully it will with you too....

In the meantime, keep your tummy muscles tight and try and take the pressure off your back. There are lots of stretches you can do...Its important to stretch your lower and upper back but also bear in mind that tightness in the back can often be caused by tight bottom muscles (hehehe) or hamstrings. Stretch everything I say!!!!

Hope it gets better! Remember, be gentle when stretching while pregnant! All your ligaments are alot looser during pregnancy so take it slow!

I am also 17wks and have been having alot of back ache and also pelvis pain. I have been to a womens health physio at the hospital where I will have my bub. It has helped alot!! I have a support belt which makes alot of difference. I also have to do some exercises and am going to hydrotherapy (aquatic physio) twice a week. Just remembering to brace those pelvic floor muscles when doing things helps. The other things where just doing things a little differently. Not sitting on the floor, taking smaller steps, remembering not to twist the body (eg. when getting out of bed or the car). Just changing everyday movents helps.
The earlier you can fix it, the better the rest of the pregnancy will be, if you don't fix it now it will just get worse as you get bigger.
Good luck, hope it improves soon!

Hi All,
I'm new to this forum so excuse me if anything looks odd. I just wanted to let you all know about a new support network for women with pelvic instability/SPD in Australia. We are called the Pelvic Instability Association (PIA) and have been meeting in Victoria for a couple of years. We recently incorporated as an association and would love to hear from anyone who has or is experiencing this debilitating condition. We have a website: www.pelvicinstability.org.au with lots of information and tips. Our next meeting is on the 26th Feb at Carnegie (Melbourne). We are having guest speaker Libby Oldfield, an experienced obstetric physiotherapy to speak about physiotherapy in pelvic instability.
I have two beautiful girls and experienced fairly severe pelvic instability in both pregnancies (ended up in a wheelchair both times). My children are now 2 and 6 and I am mostly recovered, although still get pain from time to time and need to be careful what I do.
I would love to hear back from anyone who is interested!
Cheers,
Kate

Hi Nikki

I am nearly 18 wks and have had back pain on and off. I found anti-natal aquarobics and pregnancy yoga very beneficial but I would check with your physio/OB/GP first to make sure it is safe for you to exercise. Good luck, hope everything goes well.

Thank you for all your advice :D

Just for some added info, I spoke to a midwife friend who suggested tying a sarong around my belly and basically sitting up straight!!

I do want to try prenatal aqua.. I'll call the hospie to see the choices :)
