Hi I am interested in doing hypno birthing during labor this time and was wanting to know if anyone here has tried it or knows anyone who has..I found a place that does it and it seems like a really great pain management for childbirth. Any info would be great:)

We did it (DH is a hypnotherapist).

At the peak labour felt like strong period pain, and that was with the syntocinon drip!

I loved labour and childbirth, thoroughly enjoyed it, and can't wait to do it again :)

Yep I used the hypnobirthing method when my son was born 4 years ago (first baby). I was too far away from any classes that were held so I just read the book and listened to the cd myself. It was awesome! My contractions were completely bearable. I won't say it was totally pain-free but I never even considered asking for pain relief. Bub was posterior too which I'm told is normally extremely painful for mums. Unfortunately things didn't go as planned for me and after 24 hours of intense but unproductive contractions I was transferred to hospital.

I will definitely be using the method for my baby due in March and I've ordered the updated book and cd, it should be here anyday.

isamum- where did you purchase the cd and book? I have found a place that does the classes..but If I can just get the info myself I would rather do that as the classes are almost $600

I went to the Hypnobirthing Institute website and found what I wanted to order.

www.hypnobirthing.com (http://www.hypnobirthing.com)

It asks you to print out an order form and fax it or call them in the USA. I didn't feel like doing either of those things so I emailed George Ferren and asked him if I could just give him my payment details in an email. Probably not the safest way but I have a special card that I use for internet purchases and I keep limited funds in it just in case someone nasty gets their hands on the details. George was great and got back to me within about 12 hours. I definitely suggest buying the book and cd from the Hypnobirthing Institute because the ones that you sometimes find in bookshops are older versions. I've also seen some cheap that were actually just ripoffs and not even the real hypnobirthing method.

Hope all that helps!

BTW it ended up costing $51.00 USD and with the exchange rate being so good lately $63.02 AUD is what was charged to my account. Now is a great time to get anything you want from the USA.

Oops! Am I allowed to put all that info in a post? Moderators I'm sorry if that's a no-no and I'll edit if need be.

That's fine, given its all professional contact details :)

I have a client who's doing hypnobirthing for her upcoming labour. I don't know how well it will work for her, given that she hasn't done it yet - but she had to get a stitch put in at 12 weeks (because of an incompetant cervix), and used the techniques to good effect through that. It bodes well :)

I had hypnobirthing classes and it really helped me to relax in the first stage of labour and focus in the second stage. I really recommend it, if only to build confidence.

If bub is posterior again and you don't want another epic labour check out the book Back Labour No More.

I think at the classes they really make sure you know what you are doing... and the practitioner knows if you are going into an appropriate hypnotic depth or something like that and they can help you. Could also depend on your learning style... some people are cool with reading... others need demonstration and verbal instruction.

I think hypnobirthing rocks and all mums should do it... just makes sense to relax as much as you can during labour... fear, tension, pain syndrome and all that... Good Luck! :fingerscrossed:

Thanks Mum2Reuben I'll definitely be checking out the book. I'll try just about anything to avoid another sunny side up baby.

Also I have to agree with what you said about the classes. I would love to attend classes even this time around but unfortunately again I am 1000kms from the nearest practitioner. I think it helped me that I had been using meditation and visualization techniques for quite a few years. But I would say if you can get to the classes and can beg, borrow or steal the $600 then go for it :).

It helped me be calm and focused. Cant say it actually helped the pain:eek: In between contractions I rested and relaxed and focused on my special places. I did not panic or fear the next contraction coming. My labour was much faster than the first, unfortunatley it is impossible to tell how much it helps really, every labour is different...still I am very pleased I did it.

One thing I really noticed was it helped me sleep prior to birth, before starting I was awake half the night, after starting sessions, I slept so well, straight back to sleep after visits to the loo! That was so valuable, helped keep me sane!
