DS has developed a few smallish patches of eczema on his back. Just a few questions, ladies :)
a) What washing detergent works best for you?
b) What bath products/soaps/shampoos do you use?
c) What moisturisers do you use?
d) What treatment creams do you use?
TA!:hugs:
We onlu use 2 different washing powders. As I get bad eczema too we know which ones we can use. We mainly use Surf . Cant remember the other one as mum buys it!
I dont use bath stuff very often. Ive found just plain water is much better for her. JJust twice a week I add some soap-free baby wash made by seba-med. But there are quite a few good ones you can get at a chemist like QV etc
I put just plain old sorbolene on her. Nothing fancy. Nthing added. Just a big pump bottle.,
And after her bath I use sigmacort cream. I dont like to use it often so its just that once a day when her skin is nice and ready to soak it up.
Hope this helps!

It doesn't seem to matter what washing detergent we use, what's important to us is how well it is rinsed out. I always do an extra rinse.
For bathtime: plain water or some Dermaveen Collidial Oatmeal bath oil.
Sorbolene cream as a moisturiser... but if their ezcema is bad I don't, it could sting.
Treatment creams- over-the-counter cortisone cream. Cheap and very effective, for us.

Used Amolin, switched to Omo Sensitive, now going back to Amolin. Big mistake making the move to Omo!
Was using QV, and swore by it, but tried Cetaphil for the past 2 weeks and it has been FANTASTIC. Has made a massive change to my sons skin.
Use Dermeeze everynight after the lukewarm bath. I know they say you shouldnt bath them often, but he gets so filthy and he loves the bath. Plus his skin is so much better these days.
In terms of treatment. We have Elecon cortisone cream which we use only for 3 days at a time, once every 4 weeks if needed. However if he has a bad dose we use Eilidel Cream which requires an authority script from medicare.

a) What washing detergent works best for you?
Ecostore - it is plant based and hypoallergenic or Lux flakes.
b) What bath products/soaps/shampoos do you use?
Lush shampoo/conditioner, no soap, Pinetarsol in the bath to help curb the itching and keep skin moisturised.
c) What moisturisers do you use?
Vegesorb (sorbelene made using vegetable oil instead of mineral oil which can irritate eczema) with evening primrose oil capsules squeezed into it. The evening primrose oil really takes out the inflammation and itchiness.
d) What treatment creams do you use?
MEDIHONEY! The best darn eczema product on the market. Works very nearly as well as cortisone cream. Since I discovered it I have only needed to resort to the cortisone a couple of times.
Good luck. Eczema is heartbreaking when it is severe.

Detergent wise its more so a case of rinsing extra but tend to just use a sensetive powder and only a tiny amount.
QV and hammonds oils in the bath, mainly only if bubs skins dry, otherwise if shes having an outbreak nothing but water
Creme wise just a qv moisturiser with treatment we have to do a lot of cold wraps with the elocin (sp??) creme but it clears it up quiet quickly
Washing powder - Duo Aromatics
Bath - QV cream
Pinetarsol for itchy days
We live in a really hot area and DS has a bath every night - otherwise the day's dirt sticks ot him and as a baby he had a severe skin infection, SO i bath him every day!
Cream - QV
Cortisone - Eleuphrat on pretty much every day when it flares up
Duchessa - we are remote. Is Medi honey available online at all? If not then which stores would carry it - I can send a friend inthe big smoke a hunting!

We use Omo sensitive (about 1/4 to 1/2 the recommended amount), plus use plain white vinegar in your fabric softener dispenser (it brings clothes back to the same pH as skin). I was using Lux, but you have to properly dissolve them in boiling water, or they are too gluggy and leave residue on clothes and I just can't be bothered.
No shampoo, just Dermaveen collodial oatmeal bath oil (3 squirts in the bath and one squirt rubbed in well to her head, then rinsed with water - she gets very flaky bits on her scalp).
I only bath her every other day, but always after daycare and swimming lesson days.
We use Dermaid 1% hydrocortisone on her whole body every night, followed by QV intensive greasy muck. On her head I use either QV or Dermaveen moisturiser and about once a week, I have to use Elidel prescription on her face - often after her daycare day (lots of different potential allergens she gets exposed to there).

Ha ha - I am remote too! I often use Payless Chemist online (http://www.paylesschemists.com.au/search.cfm) - the one you want is the Eczema Cream. I have found it in every chemist I have tried though, so any of your city mates would be able to get it easily.
My 2yr old has severe eczema,we cant use any of the things mentioned on his skin, i wash his clothes in just plain water, and i use QV baby balm, and also an array of steroid cream, too many to mention, no sorb cream , no manuka honey, that honey actually makes his skin flare really bad, has a really bad allergy to egg white, which is the main cause, he also has to have an epipen.

My son also has patches on his back and no where else. If you find something that works please let me know before i cut everything out of our diets to see if it is an allergy.

a) What washing detergent works best for you? Purity Sensitive - Laundry Liquid (plant derived, enzyme & phosphate free, dematologically tested)..I steer clear of powders, also Earths Choice laundry liquid seems to be ok to use on DS!
b) What bath products/soaps/shampoos do you use? Cetaphil wash...NO soaps.....Johnsons Blueberry 2 in 1 shampoo & conditioner
c) What moisturisers do you use? Cetaphil Moisturising lotion
d) What treatment creams do you use?
No treatment creams, but I do use UV Natural Sunscreen, which also doesnt flare up his skin...
Only bathe every second day, unless he is completely filthy (which is the case at the moment), as he increasingly enjoys playing in the dirt...
Wash all our stuff in a product that wont irritate him also......

Omo

c) What moisturisers do you use?

Isn't Hydrozole an antifungal? How did you come to use this? Just curious. Plain cortisone does not seem to have much effect for my DS.

Yep its a cortisone creme with antifungal. I took my bubs to the GP & he suggested that I try this on his Eczema as he said that a lot of Eczema's may have tinea in them & a regular cortisone will not get rid of the Eczema if this is the case, therefore its better to use a cream that has both Antifungal & cortisone in it. I would check with your GP first before using it on your bubs though if you are interested. It can be bought without a script but only in Pharmacies & its about $13 a tube I think.
Thanks very much leane7. I will check it out.

d) What treatment creams do you use?
I was told to use Calendula Salve but his eczema is still there. It has gotten rid of some of the redness but it is still there.
I am yet to find what causes his reactions. I have just switched washing powders from Dynamo Matic (which his Dad was ok with) to Omo Matic Sensitive. Its hard when i need it to be suitable for BOTH of them!
