Just wondering what the go is in regard to driving overseas. I had been told you didn't have to have an international driving license and that we will eventually have to take our Aussie ones in and get them replaced with ones from this country. (Don't worry, I will keep a copy of mine and claim it as lost when I get home and get another one, there is NO way I am sitting my Aussie licence again!)

I've been just driving on my Ausie one here.

Anyone know what the go is?

I guess I can just get an international one here to be on the safe side, but they only last for so long?

Hiya,

Not sure about Ireland specifically, but usually you get 12 months to drive on your International permit, then you have to get a local license.

Don't worry about your Oz license - you can renew it up to 5 years after it has expired.

If you're going overseas you have 12 months then you have to get one in the country you reside in you don't lose your aussie one, but it might expire which means you just have to renew it when you go back.

Get an IDP (International Driving Permits) and its valid for 12 months (and in some country might even let you have it for 3 years)...

You do need an IDP regardless of the length of time you are going for. You also need to transfer your licence into the country you are residing in if you are there longer than 12 months!
