View Full Version : Silly question about sposies...

I'm not a regular sposie user and so I'm a lil confused about what size I should buy. When Jedd was born we bought a carton pack of Bambo Nature for when we go out and someone gave us a pack of Infant size Huggies - and even though he is still at the 'low end' of the weight recommendations I think they are too small for him.

So silly question coming up :o The huggies that I have are narrower in the crutch than the Bambo Nature, and have leaked occasionally. How do you know that a sposie is the right size? The bambo have never leaked during the day, but dont last overnight (I only tried it twice - I usually use BBB's o'night). I need to buy a pack of sposies when I go interstate this weekend and will have to get some huggies - so should I get the next size up?

Okay - long thread about a silly question I know LOL - but can anyone help?

Honestly huggies leaked with my 2 so I don't use them. I really go by if they are tight then I shift up to the next size. I only use aldi so really have not much idea on huggies.. GOOD luck though

yes i would go up a size. i find that a larger nappy will hold more. when beth was still 9 kg we had to go up to the 11+ size as she was wetting through the smaller nappy in the one wee.

With huggies I always went up a size about 500gram to 1 kg before they needed to by huggies measurements.

How much does he weigh now?

I also always had problems with the infant size so I just skip in a go straight to the crawlers:thumbsup:

The first thing that came to my mind, and yes you know I'm not a sposie user but you could try giving this a go. Make sure that the leak guards are out. So when the sposie is on, put your finger through the leg of the sposie and sorta pull the guard bit out. It's the thin elastic bit near his crotch. I hope that makes sense. :o

If that fails, then buy the infant size nappies. I can guarantee that they he won't last long in them because there's not much size difference in the newborn - crawler.

The crawlers are the next size up - but he is only 5kg now! I dont think the crawlers start til 7 or 8kg... Are sposies likely to leak if they're a little too big? Or more likely to leak if they're too small?

Yes - that thin elastic bit definitely makes sense. I wasn't really sure what to do with it! Gawsh I sound a bit silly dont I LOL!

I still have a few infant sized ones left so I'll give them another shot tonight and pull those elastic bits out and see how we go. I'd prefer to have a leak at home that's easy to fix up than to have to sort it out while we're away.

maybe go buy the infant size ones, they are between 4-8kg, or try the crawler ones they are from 6-11kg, hope this helps! :fingerscrossed:

I am not sure about size, I just go by the kilos, but I have found that sposies only leak for me when I don't point the boys' wilburs DOWN :D.

Heck no!! You aren't silly at all. A lot of parents have sposies that leak and don't know that the leak guards need to be pulled out. You'd think they would have that on the packet.

I've never pulled the leak guard out LOL I assumed it'd just fan out when I opened the nappy for bub.

Ally, have you considered another brand? Choice Magazine found Woolies Select to be "up there" at the top of the Nappies with huggies, I find them easier to put on and wider at the crotch.

With Cobes I tend to keep him on the weight he's at, until he's close to the upper weight and change him over.. because he's not ont he same percentile line for weight and height it makes him a little more tubbier than most 9kg babies his age IYKWIM

Hopefully you don't get any leaks:fingerscrossed:

I put my bub in crawlers from about 5kgs even though they are meant for 6 - 11kg.

They definately leak more if they are too small rather than too big.

Do you still change him at all during the night? Does he wake for a feed?

Yup - we're still doing night feed's but I dont change him during the night - our BBB's go the WHOLE way through and he is still dry in the morning

I'm so nervous about what tonight might bring!
