Hey all

DS is 21 months old, he has been showing some signs of readiness for potty training, he takes his nappy off when it's really went and gives it to me, and sometimes he tells me when he's done a poo. I try to get him onto the potty but he won't sit on it all and just cracks it.

Today he has been pretty much running around nudie and he had his nappy off and knew he needed to wee so he stood up and weed on a towel that was on the floor. So this kinda got me thinking of a trick and wondered if anyone else had tried it. I am thinking of just getting either towels or terry nappies and putting them on the tiled floor for when he does a wee. Has anyone else tried this? Or is there another way i can get him to try the potty?

Cheers!

Honestly, I would just leave it a bit longer before pushing the toilet training thing. If you are outside/happy to have puddles inside the house then let him be nude and have the potty where he can see it (in whatever room he is playing in) and then if he wees somewhere else just remind him that the potty is where he should be going.
DS was trying to get his nappies off and telling me when he needed to poo at about this age too, but he didn't TT til he was 2yrs6mths...not that it means your boy will be the same as mine tho :)

I dunno... I'd just wait a while.

I think it's probably a little confusing for him if you allow him to pee on the floor, and then will later try to convince him that's wrong, and he should pee in a toilet/potty (because I assume you don't want him peeing on the floor forever...lol).

DD is 24.5 months, and we're not starting TT yet. She knows when she's pooing, knows when she's weeing, and knows when one is coming... but convincing her to sit on the potty when she actually needs to go isn't really going to plan, so I'm just letting it go until she's older and can understand a lot more of what I say.

Also figure it might be easier in Summer - when the weather is warmer.

Thanks Ladies, you guys always give great advice. I was worried about using it to get him to wee and then try to discourage him out of weeing on the floor. hehe. Ok so i think we'll just wait and take it day by day, the potty is out so i will just try and get him to sit on it every now and then. But yeah, just not push him and see when he's ready.

Thanks guys!

Hi

I agree that maybe he just isnt ready.

To make the potty more entincing though how about decorating it. I got some great dinasour (sp!) stickers and DD and I had a wonderful time sticking them on and she loves her dinasour potty!

DS hated the potty, but standing up and weeing like daddy(and a 'big boy') worked perfectly. boys dont sit to wee so why make them?

What about one one those cushy seats you actually put on the toilet??

I thought it might have been a bit confusing for DS to wee in a tub like thing on the floor (from a childs point of view), so i bought a $6 one from the Warehouse and it worked great!! He was really happy to wee on the toilet, like mummy! I had to be there the support him though.

Dont get me wrong, he's far from toilet trained, but he like this alot more. Plus the plastic of the potty used to stick to his skin and i thought it wouldve been hurting him.

maybe let him play with it, if its clean of course let him carry it around and stuff so he gets used to it dd did this for a while took it in the bath etc to play with then when we took it out the bath it was like ok sit on it now and she would...worth a shot :) let him go with the flow though

As for weeing on the floor all mine did that the minute they were out the bath the would pee on the towel it drove me mad!
