I have 2 boys and would dearly love for a girl, we would like to start trying now so there is 2 years between my youngest and the baby. I was just wondering if there is any methods of conceiving girls that people have tried and has worked, am willing to try anything at this point. Any advice would be appreciated, thanking you in advance.

I haven't tried this yet, but as the mum of the two most beautiful boys in the world I would too dearly love a little 'mini me'!!!
It's a file called 'how to choose the sex of your baby' by a Dr. Miller (I think!) which I can email to you if you'd like. Just pm me your email address and I'd be more than happy to pass it on. Good luck

Hi Catherine,

I've got a book "How to choose the sex of your baby" by Shettles and Rorvik. There are a couple of other threads where the methods are discussed, links posted below...

These have most of the info that I've read and I've said that I'll let people know in about 6months if it was successful for us. (However, I have to confess that there were two nights that we could've conceived peanut and if it was the second one it was only 2days before o, so may have been a bit late - I was only on my second cycle after having my Implanon removed so I hadn't charted too well)

Sorry if TMI regarding my details.

Hi there,

My first baby was a girl, my now husband and I were at that stage of having fun practicing but not wanting any kids yet, so we we simply avoided having sex around ovulation - which now I am told is how you increase your chances of having a baby girl! Our second was planned so when I knew I was ovulating we had sex and had a baby boy, my third was a girl and again unplanned as I was still breastfeeding, however I know that the 1 period I did get back to use protection during ovulation which we did, but still managed to get pregnant. There is alot of info on the internet, if you can get access just type in 'sex of baby' into google or some other search engine. I found info everything to do with chinese calendar the particular months and ages of the mother increase her chances in accordance with the moon of either sex. There is a diet that both of you can do which makes the body either more acidic or alkaline therefore enhancing the chances that the girl sperm will survive in that environment better, positions during sex, temperature of your hubbys testicals, etc. I have however upon hearing stories from friends who tried mostly for the girls complying ridgidly with the above and more tasks for months on end before taking the plunge and had another boy!. I suppose the moral of the story is if you and hubby want another baby and really wouldn't mind either way then go for it, however if you have your heart set on a baby girl and that is a fair call, then I would hesitate only to avoid disappointment for yourselves or perhaps you might want to consider the IVF technique of the scientist actually doing it for you, however this is a very personal and somewhat controversial decision and costly.

Whatever happens, best of luck and remember that each child we are given are truly gifts from God and the sex of the baby should really be the last thing to consider, far more important to have a healthy baby boy grow up in a loving home.

I have read somewhere that although male sperm are more robust and faster than female sperm, the female sperm live longer. So, for example, if you were to bd the day BEFORE you ovulate, then chances are higher for a FEMALE sperm to make it to the egg - cause all the MALE sperm will have died off...

Hubby and I are currently trying the shettles method for a girl (we've got two gorgeous boys:D ).
Ally you're right about the girl sperm living longers, but the stats are that the male sperm can last approx 48hours max and the female sperm 96 hours max. So trying for a girl you want to stop BDing no later than 72 hours before O, and then slowly reduce the hours if you are still not conceiving. I think that at about 48 - 72 hours prior to O your chances are about 50/50. Less than 48 hours up to 95% likely to be a boy. 72 hours+, 85% chance of having a girl.

You have to be a bit patient if you want to try this method as it may take longer to conceive since the cut off is prior O.
I've got the "How to chose the sex of your baby book" by Dr Shettles and we are trying to follow it, there are a lot of different things that he suggests you can try but the timing is the most important. It's only about $20 from the bookstore and it's got alot of helpful info on general conceiving matters, worth a read.

(oh and the chinese calender is wrong for both of my boys)

Good luck, I'll let you know how we go!!
