View Full Version : Is three months too soon?

My normally angelic bub has been quite whingy the last couple of days, crying for seemingly no reason. She's normally not much of a crier, but the last few days she has had several periods of miserable crying each day (only lasting about 5 minutes a time, thank goodness). She has been drooling incessantly, chomping on her dummy like it's the latest tast sensation (and her hand goes straight to the mouth if the dummy's not around), and has not been sleeping well during the day.

I'm pretty new to this mothering business, and I know three months is pretty early, but could she be starting to teeth? Has anyone else had their baby display these symptoms so early? It's mainly the fact that she's so grizzly when she's normally such a happy baby, coupled with the drooling and chomping on the dummy that makes me wonder about teething.

I did try feeling her gums. They feel hard, I guess, but then I haven't really felt them before so I don't have anything to compare to. And she certainly didn't enjoy my attempt to massage her gums with my finger...

Any thoughts/tips/advice most welcome!

It sure sounds like she could be. Some bubs are born with little teeth buds so it can't be too early.

With my DS's first tooth, I felt his gum in the early afternoon and it felt no different to normal. That night though he had a tooth break through !:)

Hi there

yes, some babies can even be born with teeth (or so I heard)...
Anyway, Riley started exactly the same thing when he was about 4 months and I got all excited about him teething, but it took actually another 4 months for the first 2 teeth to appear (they came both at the same time, is that normal??)..
But every child is (obviously) different, you never know. If you can tell that she is in total discomfort, I would resort to some panadol, just to take the edge of it.
I tried the Bonjela which is supposed to work, but personally I don't think it helped one bit. Maybe Riley was just resistant to it, who knows.

You might be lucky and the toothfairy will come for a visit soon!!!

Good luck,
hope this helps

Ashley went through the same thing, started drolling majorly and always had her hand in her mouth at about 3 months. Now she's 5 months and has her bottom two teeth, plus her top two and the one left of them have all broken through the skin just and are descending. I've heard it's early to have this many teeth at 5 months but I guess it was just the right time for her.

Brauer teething relief is magic and Bonjela helps her too, and we use Panadol before bed only if she's really grouchy. I dont want her developing a paracetamol dependency too early! And though I don't think paracetamol is actually addictive, long-term usage can have side effects. Best keep it for really bad pain and for fever relief.
