Hey you know my ob was called Iris and she was great. It means something to do with carrier of rainbows, which is nice but am worried it is like a grannie's name.

I think Jasmine is the best....it's my name:)
LOL RM:p
I looooove Lilac and Poppy:)
Thanks Katie! me too!!
Lx
It does seem to suit a woman more than a little girl. I'm trying to picture someone yelling "Iris" in the shops and I'm not seeing it.
One of the more different names I saw while googling was Jolan, a form of Iolathne, which is Greek for some flower, I thought that was nice, but possibly everyone will think her name is Julian?
Cheers

funfarrell
04-02-2006, 21:36
Ivy reminds me of that boy someone knew who posted here, called Ivor Locock. Apparantly he was related to Pat MacGroin!!!:D
Hey if we are widening the field to include plant names, what about Sage? It means "wise" and I think that's really nice (a bit hippy for my DH though).
Cheers

There's a couple of Hawaiian names on that link I posted, maybe if you fave flower is frangipani, you'd like something a bit island-ish

DH's mum was named Iris and if we ever have a baby girl guess what she will be called..............IRIS :D
At first I felt the same way as you, too old fashioned but I have had about 5 years to get used to it and LOVE it now ;)
I think its really simple and sweet, it means Rainbow Goddess in greek :)
I really like the name Veronica :)
Go on...you've got the same name as me haven't you?;)
As a child I hated it - was always Ronnie
Nah, my name's Krystal...my TV heroine is Veronica Mars, though ;)

Now there's a line of names I love - gems ...Krystal, Sapphire, Jade - I'm sure there are more
I think Jasmine is one of the greats, can be shortened to Jazz etc.
PS Love Veronica Mars too (wish I was that cool in high school, she seems to be an outcast, but her self esteem is such that she can handle it all!!)

I always liked the name Holly
I don't know about Wattle or Bottlebrush, but Dianella could be nice.
Had to check if you were from WA - I'm pretty sure I couldn't name my child after a suburb.
Something wrong with Wattle????? :p I think it's rather lovely.
How about herbs? Rosemary
How about self-raising?
Dianella is a suburb north of Perth - don't know of any suburbs called Wattle.
Did you miss that my second name is Rosemary (and I curse my mother for it - makes a name far too long - I should have married a man with a shorter surname!) There's nothing wrong with Sage
I can see where you're going with self-raising, but maybe that should be a better name for a boy? Keep the plain for the child you don't want to stand out
Sorry - we've gone off track here:)
I love the name Gardenia,..

No, I'm from Sydney and only know Dianella as a flower. Should have checked with my husband, he's from WA. Oh well!

PS I don't think Sydney parents are bothered by using suburb names for their kids: there are lots of little Brontes here. But maybe Bronte is a nicer suburb than Dianella?
No, Dianella is a fine suburb, close to the city. I hadn't really heard of Bronte as a suburb, I always think of the Bronte sisters.
Mind you, my niece is a Kiara and only after she was born, I heard of a very new suburb north of Perth by the same name, I guess the thing is I've never heard of Dianella as a flower, so it sticks in my mind as "the place where aunty dora used to live".
Have you seen this web site yet? Flowers and plants...
