My DD was born Oct 05' (obviously) and we we're hoping to get her into a bed before her brother arrives, due Sept 07'. :fingerscrossed:

So we took the side off her cot to make it like a toddler bed. She lasted about 2-3 weeks and was driving me nuts.:hair: She would wake in the night about 11ish and then would wake every morning about 5-5:30am.
Normally she would sleep through till 6:30-7am and not wake at all in the night. She also didn't really have an afternoon sleep while the cot was like that.
So I have concluded she is prob not ready yet. We put the side back on her cot and she is sleeping properly again.

So, I wonder...is your October 05' bub in a bed yet?

i have a nov 05 bub and he has been sleeping in a bed for the last 3 weeks or trying too! the first week was awful so he was alternated between bed and cot. he does wake up earlier in the bed anytime between 5 - 6, but :fingerscrossed: he gets use to it soon. his cot is in his room and i do put him in there for his afternoon nap - for peace!

the reason why we got a bed for him is that we are going overseas in september and he is too big for a portacot so i want him to be familiar with a bed. otherwise i wouldn've kept him in his cot - he showed no signs of wanting to get out of it.

ds#1 was in a bed at 20 months and he didn't have a cot in his room to distract him and we had no problems with him adjusting - i put him in the bed because ds#2 came along and he was trying to get out of the cot.

i think i'd keep your dd in the cot - its a comfort thing for her plus you need the rest with a bub coming along.

DD is also an Oct 05 bub and still in her cot. She doesnt show any interest in climbing out of it at this stage, but Im sure that will come soon.

We are looking at getting her a bed soon as she seems so big in the cot without much room to move. We are planning to move her straight into a regular single bed before her birthday.

She is quite happy napping on a bed when we are out visiting and it has yet to affect the length of time she will sleep for (~ 2hours). We plan to talk about the bed and get her some bedding she likes, then take the cot away.

Hope this helps. Good luck sorting it all out before the next bub arrives!

Thanks guys!

Yeah, we have a bed so we are going to put the bed in her room and give her the choice of where she wants to sleep...hopefully it works. I think she will think its exciting to go up in a bigger bed as she has recently started to climb up in our bed and lay there.
The thing with taking the side of the cot off is we can't have a rail, it won't fit down the side so maybe with a bed, having the rail she will still feel secure like her cot so will adapt better? But like I said, we will have both there so if she doesn't like the bed she can go in her cot.
I think if we try to force it, we may end up with problems, she may get afraid of her bed or something???

Its a toughie!

That's a great idea to get her into a bed before your next one comes. We have a similar dilemma with my DS who is 21 months old, when he actually has a day sleep he sleeps in his own big bed, but normally at night he is in bed with me, poor DH gets kicked into the spare room. So anyways, tonight is the first night he is in his own big boy bed and we'll see how he goes. He hasn't been in a cot since he was a baby he slept in a portacot in our room, then at 8 months he's been in our bed, so i think it's about time he moved into his own room and his own bed. Wish us luck too! :fingerscrossed:

No not yet. For the past week-two weeks, we've been leaving the side down on the cot. It's still there, just not pulled KWIM? In a few weeks, we'll take it off and maybe attach one of those bed side rails so he can get in and out by himself. We'll see how we go then  but he hasn't tried to climb out of the cot yet, even with the side rail down.

No - not yet for us either. I think about it every now and then but DS shows no signs at all of wanting to go into a big bed. He has never tried to climb out of his cot - but he has made an attempt to climb in once or twice. I think that's cute. I must admit that I am in no hurry to rush this as he sleeps really well in the cot - the only reason I would consider it at this stage is that he doesn't sleep as well in a portacot and we are often away from home.

I hadnt had any problems with DS climbing out of his cot or even trying to, but he was getting too long for his cot and would wake himself up when moving around, so figured it was as good a time as any to try moving him to a single bed.

DS moved into a single bed with a lindham rail (the best rail I have ever found mind you-better than safety first!) 1 week after his 2nd birthday. We got him a wiggles quilt cover and let him help assemble the bed and clapped for him when he first got into it, made a big deal for him..
Its his "Big Boy Bed"
we havent had a problem yet!

he sleeps thru from 6:30pm til about 5-6am..
Im so proud!!
