Just saw on nine news site that GOLDEN CIRCLE has recalled the following baby food products.

The affected products are the 220g can Junior Mates Vegetables, Beans and Beef 1-3 years; 170g Junior Mates Pear, Rice and Mango Pudding 1-3 years and 170g 3rd Foods Risotto, Vegetable and Beef from 10 months.

Customers can return the products, which all have `best before' dates of up to and including January 3, 2008, for refunds.

No other Golden Circle products have been affected.

Meant to say these products contain bits of plastic!

Thanks for that Jen. Here is a link to the MSN news item: Golden Circle issues Baby Food Recall (http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=71690) In addition to returning items, consumers can telephone Golden Circle's baby info line on freecall 1800 730 101 (Australia), 0800 622 229 (New Zealand).

All supermarkets are required to post notices of recalls of any items that they have sold. It is worth finding these in your usual shop and having a glance at them every time you go.

Another good site to check periodically is Product Recalls Australia (http://www.recalls.gov.au/index.php). All recalls across Australia will be listed there (I checked and the Golden Circle one isn't there yet). However there is a recall for the Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Chair (http://www.recalls.gov.au/view_recall_detail.php?Recall_ID_Auto=13899), which some parents may have.

Editted to add: the Golden Circle recall notice is available on the Food Standards Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ) website. Go here (http://www.foodstandards.gov.au/recallssurveillance/foodrecalls/currentconsumerlevelrecalls/index.cfm).

Ta very much Jen and MarthaM - I have, of course both the food and the laugh and learn chair - OMG!
Mind you, I wear the food most of the time and Zac only likes to stand on the chair, which is horrifying enough - but thanks again for the heads up!
