Just wondering if anyone knows what the earliest recommended age is to start control crying. We had great success with it for our first child and will probably look at using again with our second child

6 months with "proper" CC apparently, although personally I didn't think my bub would have understood what was going on then. I guess they're all a bit different! There are of course "scaled down" versions of CC (if that makes sense) that ppl have used at different ages - not sure if it's recommended - just reporting what I've heard :) .

I am pretty sure Ferber never meant for CC to be used before 12 months, but he has since even changed his mind about it full stop.

Ferber (the expert in the field) actually recommends 6 months in his book but has apparently recently moved towards a later recommendation, as opposed to abandoning it altogether (perhaps he recognizes that many desperate parents still need a solution that gets them through). Many experts say that CC in it's true form shouldn't be used under 6 months as babies still need to feed through the night before then. That does not mean that you can't try different methods of settling so that baby learns to put themselves to sleep.

I started gentle CC with my first for day time sleeps at about 4 1/2 months to break the fall asleep on the boob habit. I spoke to my Maternal Health nurse about it first and she said get the day sleeps happening regular and the night follows. It worked well for us Zoe was sleeping through by 5 1/2 months and has been a good sleeper since.
