View Full Version : Wrapping - any age to stop?

Jedd is 10 weeks old now and he settles and sleeps much better when he is wrapped. Earlier today hubby mentioned that maybe we should stop wrapping him - that he thought he remembered the nurse at the hospital mentioning that at about 3 months old bub should be 'weaned' off being wrapped.
Is this a load of cods-wallop? Or should I just continue doing what works? I like wrapping Jedd, and I know he likes it as well. Why should I stop something that works? :detective:

Rylan has just stopped being wrapped
but he stopped himself
he started to hate being wrapped up at night where as before he loved it to sleep.
hes just 7 months now
if its working for you, why stop?

I didn't stop wrapping Claire until she was 9 months old - and did so then because it was clear it was more of hinderance than anything....She just wasn't sleeping well anymore, and had to be re-wrapped 2 or 3 times a night....
If it ain't broke, don't fix it :D

Hi, i agree with the other girls...go with what works for you and your bub. They'll definately let you know when they dont want to be wrapped anymore.

I still wrap sometimes and DS is 10 months. If he is over tired this is the only way he will sleep. Not sure if this is good or bad but it works for us:o .

Bub will tell you when it is time to stop being wraped. For my DD it wasn't until 10m, the wrap almost wasn't big enough anymore! With my DS it was 4-5m.
They are all different and will fight their way out when they no longer like it. The i recommend transition to a sleeping bag.

Serena was wrapped until 8 months and Sasha was wrapped until 10 months.
I say keep wrapping him if thats what he's most comfortable in :)
My ds was wrapped till he was about 5-6 months. do wat u think is best for ur ds
I wrapped Asher until he was 9 months old. He'd wriggle out of the wrap as soon as his back hit the cot mattress well before then but I was too afraid of breaking our sleep routine and being punished for it to stop before then.
I put him into a sleeping bag straight away - none of this weaning business. He grizzled for maybe 15 minutes longer that first time but was fine for every other sleep thereafter.
Trust your instincts and wrap until you find it unnecessary,
Abby stopped her self when she was ready  It actually wasnt all that long ago to be honest! She just didnt ever want to go to bed and was so over stimulated that she needed the wrapping to calm her down. A lot of it was a lack of routine on my behalf and im more than happy to admit that whereas now she is settled in her routine and knows that when she goes in the cot that is sleep.
That said when it is 2am and she is screaming and nothing else gets her to sleep we revert back to wrapping!
Just trust your instincts hun and go with Jedd's queues:thumbsup:
My DD is almost 6 months old and is still wrapped. I am just going to let her give me the signs that she is ready to stop and then i will probably put her into a sleeping bag or something similar.
I dont really think there is an age limit on this kinda thing. As everyone has said, if it aint broke dont fix it

You've answered your own question luv.
If it aint broke, don't fix it. Jedd will let you know when he is ready to stop. Baden let me know by grunting and putting his arms out - pretty easy to figure out, lol
Yep what she said ^^ heh
Boof stopped being wrapped around 7-8mths & he certainly let me know !
If you arent sure you can always give it a go & if it doesnt work well it doesnt then you go back to wrapping !
i never wrapped my kids....see its only on bubhub i find out all this stuff i never knew...

Let your bub guide you, DD stopped being wrapped at about 4 months because she wasnt settling when wrapped and wanted to spread out!! You bub will let you know when he's ready..
I went through so much trying to get DD to sleep unwrapped,if she became unwrapped she woke up. In the end I went with it and just got up to rewrap her if needed, eventually she decided she didnt need it at about 4 months, though her sleep was still a little restless a sleeping bag fixed that.

DS was wrapped until he was 12 weeks. The nurses do say to stop at 3 months, but all babies are different. If he sleeps better then keep going.
