Hi again,

We have finally found a lovely 18 year old girl who is willing to look after my 2 boys, she came to meet them today so far so good...

But... she has never babysat before and we have only left the boys with family and friends, so don't know what the going rate is...

The boys will sleep soundly, they will be in bed asleep before we go out... so she will just be watching TV

Can anyone help.. are we looking at $5 an hour or $15.... or flat rate of $20 or $50...

The only help she has given us is that she used to get $12 an hour in Woolworths... but is that comparable with babysitting?...

Many thanks

Julie:)

I'd say $50 would be a fair price for that amount of time.

You could always ring a few "babysitting agencies" and ask how much their hourly rate is.

Hey :)

I used to charge a standard thirty for night stuff... mainly cause the kids were in bed... so i watched tv and studied... day stuff I asked for aroung ten an hour...

Hi I have an 18 year old girl look after DS every now and then. Generally its just for a couple of hours while we have dinner or catch a movie. I knew her before we had Coop so she has been a pretty reliable source when it comes to payment. She said the going rate (over here) is between $10-$15 an hour. We pay her $12.50 an hour, normally costs us $25-$35 a night and Coop is always asleep.
Hope this helps!

We have two girls (well, they's be in their mid-20's - I'm soooo old:( ) who look after Ry at night maybe once every 3 months. They are his daycare mums so are qualified in childcare, have first aid certificates etc.

They have a standard rate of $10 per hour. The beauty is that if one is busy, normally the other one can make it.:)

We have an 18 year old who sits for us in the evenings and her rates are $20 for the first two hours (whether we use 2 hours or not) and $8 thereafter - in 15 minute blocks. I normally round it up for her.

Just as a comparison, agency babysitters are about $15 an hour plus an agency fee of between $10 and $20 per booking.
