Okay so I might seem very naive but I'm just starting to do my research on birth centers and am getting a bit confused. I do not want a hospital birth. I want a water birth managed by midwives that I know. I know there is the birth center at the RBWH and am under the impression that this is public and there is a waiting list? Is this the only birth center in brisbane? Are there private birth centers? If this is the only one how early can you put your name down on the waiting list?

Some insight would be really appreciated.

The RBWH Birth Centre works on a ballot system. When you get pregnant go to your GP and get them to send a referral letter to the hospital stating that you want to go to the Birth Centre. They draw out so many people each month that are due in that month (luck of the draw really)... you should find out if you are in or out by the time your 16-20 weeks. Other places that do waterbirth are Selangor, Redlands and John Flynn, Gold Coast......
