Just a couple of questions as I was talking to a friend & am now wanting to know how different was your second labour to your first?

Was it longer/shorter?

More or less painful?

Any other info please??

Second labour was a couple of hrs shorter, but I was induced for both due to GD.

Waited a lot longer for epi the first time but not for the second.
DS got stuck and the doctor gave me a massive episiotomy incase of forcep delivery, he used vacuum and ripped DS's scalp with the last pull he could do before going onto forceps. Was awful.
No probs with DD pushed her out with no probs, no episiotomy and no need for vacuum.

I was a lot more relaxed the second time as I knew what to expect (waters being broken, gel, epi etc.) I was induced at 3.30pm with DS so was so tired 17 hrs later but i was induced at 8am with DD after a good nights sleep, and lasted 15hrs ans was so determined to push my @ss off as I couldn't handle having the vacuum brought out again. Even though the second time wasn't much shorter it was a better experience.

Exactly the same time but #1 was induced and #2 wasn't.
Enjoyed #2 much much more. Would do it again in a flash.
Worst part were the after pains. My goodness they were horrid.

Both my labours have been great:thumbsup: . The first was 6 hours and I thought it was joyful but very painful. The second was 2 hrs and was virtually painless. Both were drug free, but I think the 2nd was better as I really let it take hold of me and just surrendered to it all. I also used gravity better and didn't ever push. I just let my body do it all and my DD literally flew out of my body-no stitches, no ring of fire, all in one go.

Best experience of my life by far:hugs: .

Was it longer/shorter? it was dramatically shorter from 6hrs to 1.5hrs:)

More or less painful? I would say it was more but only be cause I had drugs last time and the second was drug free:D

Any other info please?? my second was more memorable I think coz I was focused and had no drugs in my system,
my second was a wonderful experience compared to my first traumatic birth

gd luck D im sure you will do brillantly!:D

I love this thread! I am becoming more hopeful about this next labour (not long now!!!)

My first was only 4.5 hrs but induced - was SO painful. I was frightened and uncomfortable with my doctor.

This time I am going to a birthing centre with midwives only.

I HOPE HOPE HOPE it will be less painful and I will have a more 'empowered' experience.

Mine was about half the time of my first, and it progressed VERY quickly! :smiliedance:

Oh the second baby exited out of the correct hole :p

Ok this is all good so far :D

MJs was only 6.5 hrs from the first contraction (10.5 from start of waters breaking), had gas during the labour but not for 90mins up to & including delivery. Oh & she was posterior. I had no afterpains at all with her, so not sure what to expect there :o

My mum had progressively shorter labours so hopefully I'll be the same :fingerscrossed:

I too am aiming for completely drug free & NOT on my back this time. Want to be up & active if possible.

I'm hoping for the best, can you tell

Hi RB,

My 2nd labour was fast (for me) just over 5hrs, was painful though as she was a big bubba. I think its easier the 2nd time around for me as i had previously experienced labour and birth before (even though DD1 was posterior). Hot water was my pain relief. DD3 i was induced, and that was definitely fast (a little over 3 hrs).

All the best

Was it longer/shorter?
Shorter my first labour was 2 days of hell, 2nd was 3-4 hours

More or less painful?
I had an epi with my first after about 12 hours of lots of pain, with my second though i had a hit of peth which didnt really stop the pain but did help me dialate more....he was posterior though as well so it was alot of back pain a different pain

Any other info please??
I found myself more confident with my second, i knew what to expect i was prepared mentally and pysically as well, although i think all my labours are painful it didnt come as much of a shock with my second.

my second labour was very different. I didnt really go into labour by myself(ok bear with me as i am having trouble remembering)

I was in pre labour for a while...
sunday i was rushed to hospy with severe odema(sp?)
I was already 1 cm dilated...(according to hospy i was 38 weeks 5 days...)
went in on the wednesday due to bleeding after sex(39+1)
I *think* I was 3-4 cm by then....
went home
started having very mild(i wouldnt say painful at all) contractions went back to hospital, they booked me in as i was 6cm...

(lol then apparently i 'undilated' to 4 cm)

dr was gonna break waters but DD was too high and facing wrong way

membranes ruptured at 7am(39+2) apparently(though i honestly cant remember it being that long)

then it says...2 hours 50 min of stage one labour
9 min stage two(im readin my hospy paperwork)
I dilated 6 cm in 20 mins(though i feel like it was 7cm but my memory is bad) and she was pushed out in 9 mins.

it was definately easier on me, being that i wasnt in full established labout for 20 hours again with 2 hrs pushing and sh!tloads of intervention.
i had a few tiny stitches and some laceration(with DS it was BAD plus i had an episiotomy and venthouse)less pain(though crowning was worse cos i had a local with DS and didnt feel it as much)

i do think if i waited and let myself go instead of pushing them for my waters to be broken i could have had her late, but im pretty happy all round with the birth. i tried to have pethidine but it had no effect at all and i did ask for an epi but i was pushing before the doc got there...

It was shorter and more painful (but only because I didn't have an epi). In saying that it was more enjoyable as I was in total control, if that makes sense.

Was it longer/shorter?My first labour was long it felt like forever.I was rushed to hospital at 33 weeks cause i was in labour when i was examined i was 1cm dialted and they were going to give me something to stop the contractions but i decided to just go home and rest and see how i went.I went home and luckily the pains eased off but i did end up having a show.By 39 weeks they were inducing me,i was already 4cm dilated and they broke my waters the first stage of labour was 13 hrs and the second stage was 3HRS! it was bad i had to have a ventouse delivery because bubs wasnt budging.

My second labour i was induced at 1 day overdue they put a balloon in my cervix to help it dilate it came out 1 hr later when its supposed to stay in there at least 8 hrs so that was a failed attempt. They then put gel in and in the morning they broke my waters. My first stage of labour went very fast and came hard(it hurt so much) it was much more painful than my first labour. My first stage of labour was 9.5 hrs and my second stage was only about 10 mins.Bubs came out so quick and was such a relief i enjoyed this labour far more because it was just easier.

More or less painful?
Second labour was more painful with stronger contractions, therfore my labour was shorter.

My second labor was much shorter, by 18 hours. Was just as painful. No pain relief because i knew what i was doing and knew how strong the contractions would get, and i also knew when I was in transition because i wanted to give up LOl, so i knew i was close.

A LOT more confident the second time around

My second labour was 3 hours shorter than #1, i went into spontaneous labour, #1 was induced, i had a VBAC with ventouse ext. with #2, I think it was more painful than my first labour. I was already 3 cms dialated with #2 when i got to the hospital, i was 1cm when i was induced with my first. Waters broke by themselves, ob broke them with #1.

My labours have gotten quicker every time, 10.5 hrs with ds1, 7.5 hrs with ds2 and with the twins just over 4 hrs with Jett and 5 hrs with Isaiah.

It was shorter not by much though, only 3hrs shorter. It was more painful as it was natural. with the twins i was induced so had a epidural.
With Bren I did it drug free.

My second was shorter than my first but no less painful. And the afterbirth pains OMG , bloody painful. Needless to say yes i did go on to have a third and that was an absolute breeze. Had to have an Epi due to PIH but way better.
