Okay, been on this site for over a year you'd think i'd have gathered a clue by now about MCN's but sadly *sigh* no..

Everytime I popped into this sub-forum i'd try and try but the bubble in my head bursts! I just can't take in all the acronyms and terms.

Anyhoo, I'm thinking about making my own now (never used a MCN on DS yet, just terry flats on the odd occasion) anyway without ever really siting one I'm going to endeavour to make one  then, hopefully, many :fingerscrossed:
SO help me out - I want to make pocket nappy (I think)

Is it possible to make a pocket so that only the insert needs replacing? I looked at Wee wikas pattern but the whole nappy/cover and stuffing would need replacing every change right?

What is the outer most layer made of?

What is the stuffing/inserts made of. And where do you get it?

What is the lining made of?

How come i'm seeing so many pics of naps with press studs? Why don't you use velco?

Can anyone direct me toward getting a pattern for a pocket that I can use on DS till he's out of nappies? Or am I being a bit ambitious?

Will fold over elastic be cumfy on his chubby little legs?

Or should I encase the elastic in the fabric?

Should I make the nappy with gussets (like on wee wika) ?

Are AIO's easier to make?

Can I get all the stuff I need from say Spotlight or something?? I need to see it IRL IYKWIM.

Thanks for reading. I hoping to have some furry poop catchers on my boy real soon :D

oh sorry, didn't realise the extent of it, lol

PUL is the material with the waterproofy stuff on one side so the wee can't get out. Some nappies are made of PUL some are made of fleece etc.

Not a pocket (although some people still do it), because with a pocket, the wee always goes through the inner, to the absorbancy. Although the inner stays dry, it would still smell of wee.
What is the outer most layer made of?
Something waterproof - usually PUL or fleece.

What is the stuffing/inserts made of. And where do you get it?
Usually hemp or bamboo. Get it online thru any nappies supplies store, or join a co-op here on Bubhub to get a bit. Zada is running one at the moment.

What is the lining made of?
Something that will stay dry next to bubs skin, but let the wee pass through. Usually polarfleece, microfleece, or suedecloth.

How come i'm seeing so many pics of naps with press studs? Why don't you use velco?
Lots of nappies use velcro, I actually prefer velcro. Sometimes it catches in the wash though - I use snaps too.

Can anyone direct me toward getting a pattern for a pocket that I can use on DS till he's out of nappies? Or am I being a bit ambitious?
Try the medium-large Wee Weka pattern, but just make it a bit wider in the crotch area, by about 8cm or so.

Will fold over elastic be cumfy on his chubby little legs?
Yes :D

Or should I encase the elastic in the fabric?
You don't even need to encase it, you can just hide it, by sewing it in when the nappy is inside out.

Should I make the nappy with gussets (like on wee wika) ?
Bah, too hard!

Are AIO's easier to make?
Probably harder, if you want the absorbancy sewn-in. If you want it just to snap-in, or velcro-in, or just lay in, then it's basically the same as making a pocket.

Can I get all the stuff I need from say Spotlight or something?? I need to see it IRL IYKWIM.
You can get stuff that will suffice until you know you want to make a whole stash or not.
You can make a pocket just out of fleece (microfleece for the inner, 2 layers of polar for the outer).
You can stuff the pocket with a terry towelling nappy instead of hemp or bamboo, it will just be bulkier.

Hope that helps! I have tons of material here, let me know if you'd like me to send you a bit so you can see it all and have a go at making a nappy or two!
