hi everyone,
just wondering when is a good time to take the dummy away. my DD is 7 months old and has started waking at night because the dummy has fallen out. as soon as i put it back in she falls off to sleep but this could happen 3/4 times a night and is getting tiring.what is the most successful way to take a dummy without causing distress. she only has her dummy at bed time it never comes out fo the cot.

Hi,
we had the same problem with DD when she would take the dummy out herself & then cry for us to find it & then put it back in, she was the same in the fact that she would only have her dummy at bedtime. So we started putting her to bed without the dummy but with a teddy & if after a minutes she cried for her dummy we would go into her room & give it to her but if not then we would leave it. During this time she stopped self settling for a little while but after a few days, we could put her into her cot without dummy & leave the room, without her making a fuss, I think that it was a bit out of sight out of mind for her. Good luck, let me know how it all goes.
Ciao,
Brooke.

Hi all

Our 10 mth old daughter has a dummy for sleeping and sometimes this rolls over into during the day - particularly around dinner time when she is getting really tired and grumpy

i really want to get rid of it but are scared to death of doing it!!!

A friend just took it away from her 11 month old and it only took 2 nights of crying - but one of those nights were a couple of hours crying.

What I am not sure about is - the longer I wait, will her reaction only be worse?????
