Hi,
I have been recommended Emma O'Shea, Michele Batey, and Gilbert Burton as very good OBs that deliver at the Mater, North Sydney.
Although my OB for No. 1 did very fine stitches on the episiotomy I am thankful for to this day, we didn't really see eye to eye on my no drugs natural 'birth plan' and so it wasn't a particularly comfortable relationship. The comment that my OB didn't understand why all women didn't opt for C-section about sums up that OB's views.
For No. 2 I would prefer an OB with views sympathetic to mine and want to get in early being only 2 1/2 weeks at the moment. I had no complications with DD1, so I'm hoping that No. 2 will follow in his/her big sister's footsteps.
Would any of you recommend these or any other OBs?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.:babydust2:

I have an OB at the Mater - unfortunately this is my first baby and I'm not very far along so I can't really comment on his approaches to various interventions. According to the information he provided when I booked with him he welcomes natural and active birth but I don't know how he will be at the actual birth.
If you still want his name PM me and I'll send it to you - although I don't really know if this has been much help.
I have also heard that Gil Burton is very good.

I'm seeing Dr Steven Tan, who I think is super lovely. My impression of him is that he's totally open minded on what mum wants. I've only said I want a vaginal birth and he's really supportive of that. I haven't discussed drugs with him, because I intend to see how things go. I certainly find him very encouraging and supportive. I'm 37 weeks and each time I see him he tells me he's sure I'm going to be able to push this little bubba out no problem.

Thanks Chadstonegirl and mimcal for your responses.
Congratulations to you both! Chadstonegirl, you're almost there! Is this your first? If so, I hope you enjoy the last little bit of time and have a wonderful experience!
Mimcal, how far along are you? I found the first time quite full on with everything being so new. And eventhough my Ob wasn't ideal for me, he did his job well at the end where it really matters. The Mater was absolutely fabulous (totally caring and attentive) - midwives were great and very supportive of a natural birth and also afterwards, with help with breastfeeding all the nurses were splendid and reassuring. I am traveling back to Sydney from OS to have my second there because it was such a positive experience.
I also really recommend trying to get into Juju Sundin's birth classes. There was probably a pamphlet in your pack from the hospital. I could never have had dd without any drugs if I hadn't had her awesome classes.
In the end I managed to get in with Dr Gil Burton. I've only heard great things about him, so I'm hoping he'll be the right Ob for me.
Take care and stay relaxed and happy.

Gil Burton is great. Favours natural birth over interventions. He's fantastic, I love him. And he's got the best sense of humour.

I just had my second baby and Michele Batey was fantastic! Lovely bed side manner, modern and fully supportive of natural. She even got my baby turned when it was breech!!

I had Dr Burton for my first baby and he was excellent. He is very calm and relaxed. I have him booked in for number 2. Best of luck!
