My easy peasy version is:-

In a dish (lasagne, baking, flan etc) place layers of thinly sliced potato, diced bacon and dry french onion soup (about 3 layers or so) followed with a generous layer of french onion soup (dry) and (depending on size of dish) about 400-500ml cream poured over the top (I use the low fat, long life stuff).

Cook in 170 degree oven for about 2 hours and for the last 15 minutes or so sprinkle grated cheese over the top and let brown.

In a baking dish, i layer sliced potatoes, diced bacon, diced onion for about 3 layers, then pour cream over the top, and cook in 180C oven for about 3/4 hour (or until nearly cooked through), then sprinkle with grated cheese, and cook until browned.

I cheat and use bought diced bacon, and frozen diced onion, and always have long life cream in the pantry. Always handy then!

I slice my potatoes thinly, line them in the baking dish, in a bowl I mix together carton of light milk and lots of garlic, some salt and pepper, pour it over the top, top with lots of grated cheese and bake until the potato is soft and cheese is golden.

So absolutley yummy.

I just have potatos with 500ml of cream, some garlic and a little chicken stock.

I mix the chicken stock in with the cream and pour over the potatos. Stick it in an oven for about 1.5hrs at about 180 degrees. Top off with cheese and put in for another 10 minutes and your done!

OK this is super fattening but here goes:

layer potatoes in dish (lasagne or similar)
Mix together sml thickened cream & sml light sour cream and 2-3 tsps of minced garlic or 2 cloves of fresh. You can add other stuff too, like the others have suggested. Cook at 180c 1-1.30hrs cover with grated cheese and cook until golden brown.:chef:
