I could always ring my dentist for this, but I thought I'd see what feedback I get from you great bubhuber's out there.
What age was your child when they had their first visit to the dentist, how was the visit, good, bad, indifferent?
Any advice that would help me make it as pleasant as possible would be great!:D
I'd like to know this too. My DD barely lets us get near her with the toothbrush so I'm dreading the first dentist appointment.
I asked this question to my dentist friend last week and she says different dentists will say different things - typical! :D
She basically suggested that when you go to the dentist for a checkup take your child with you so that they become familiar with the process - don't take them along if you are going to get fillings or something coz your reaction may not be a good one
She said once their back molars have come through then (and most of their other teeth) take them to the dentist just to see if the teeth are all aligned properly and all is well and to get general dental advice (ie. toothbrushing etc)
oh also - the way I got my DD to brush her teeth and to let us brush her teeth was to do it when we all as a family brushed our teeth together (ie. first thing in the morning) and from when she was about 12 months she was curious as to what we were doing and we gave her a toothbrush and she just started imitating us. She loves brushing her teeth now!

Hmm I never go to the dentist :o Well, rarely. Unless I have a sore tooth or something.
Maybe I should take ds

This is exactly the advice that my dentist gave me when I asked about DS.
His first visit ended up being to the school dentist when he was 5 and he was fine with it. I recently took him to my dentist as his first adult tooth had started to come through his gums behind his baby tooth (he hadn't lost any yet) and I was a little worried but was told it was perfectly fine and his teeth were in great shape and that he should come back for annual check ups. He finally lost his first baby tooth last night!!!
DS has just had his first dentist trip, and he was 3 in June.
He sees a pead dentist though, because DD needs to see the pead dentist.
TBH, I only took DS though as he has knocked one of his front teeth and it has discoloured and we wanted it checked.
