 Hello there,

Im in need of some help, or maybe just some reassurance.

My baby is 15 days old and yesterday he wanted to be fed every 45-60mins between 2pm & 6pm.

And now today it looks as if the same pattern is going to be repeated.
He has fed for 10 mins on one side only at each of the following times today
11am
12.30pm
1.30pm
2.35pm

Whilst i am at home and its not like i have any where to be, its just driving me a little batty.

He is sleeping, settling and feeding well at night, it just seems to be this mid arvo session that he is going crazy.
I tried offering a dummy just before this last 2.35pm feed to see if it was just the suck he wanted but he wasnt interested in it.
And he does have full on strong sucking for the 10 mins that he is on the boob.

IS there anything i should be doing differently?
Should i just keep feeding him as he wants it?
Should i try and make him hold out a little longer?

If this keeps up for weeks on end i think ill go batty.

Thanks heaps gals.

ETA - if he is wanting feeds this often, should i continue to offer the same side so that he is getting more hind milk?
Like should i continually offer the left side only for a 3 hour block and then change to the right?
Or should i just continue to alternate?

Boobies atm are both feeling very "squishy" and im not experiencing that hard swollen feeling anymore.

I'm no expert, but all the midwives and lac consultants I've interacted with/seen have said "feed on demand" is now the popular preference.

the other thing - my DD screamed and screamed and woke all through the night, almost hourly, and would cry and not want a feed ... I could go on!
My point being: dont mess with your sleep! Keep things as they are while the sleep is good!
I wish my DD - who did feed frequently and often hourly through the day - had slept like that!

He might also be doing that frenzy of feeding to get him through the night too.

TJ your little man is doing what is needed to boost your supply for an upcoming growth spurt. It is very normal for them to feed so frequently at this age.
Keep doing what your doing. Things will settle down for you soon enough.
Your doing a great job, stick with it.

hey! congrats on the beautiful bubba!!! awwwww hes beautiful! anyhow, about the afternoon feeding.... thats normal, emily used to do that every afternoon, its called the "witching hours" so to speak, where they get all thingy and wants lots of boobie, dont worry, they are just filling up for night time where they go longer without a feed. as for the other feeds just make sure hes getting enough each feed and not snacking so to speak.

It's the early days - it happens a lot, I'm afraid.

His tummy is just so tiny that it can't hold enough at any one go so he keeps refueling. I know, it ends up making you feel like a professional moo-cow but this stage will pass.

It'll be easier to just surrender yourself to it and expect this to happen than to fight it mentally and get annoyed about not being able to get anything else done: make the next few days' mission to just feed and watch TV. It's quite a great excuse to do sod-all all day :D
