Hi all, just wanted to share that this is my second AF with the lunette and am still [I]loving[I] it. My second day and night are usually the heaviest and I found the cup slipping a bit towards the 8 hr mark on my second day, so I emptied it and it was pretty full. The second night was much the same. I woke up at about 5am with that inimitable second sense we girls get and went to the loo and again, it was full. However, I've had no leakage and no other problems, especially since I lopped most of the stem off.

My sister gave hers its first trial run (she is close to in synch with me) and she also loved it, but also lopped off most of the stem. Her oldest daughter who is 14 is also really keen to give a cup a go, which is fantastic, because she's one of the 'popular, gorgeous, in-crowd' at her school, so maybe she just might start a revolution! Wouldn't that be great?!

I'm just so ectstatically happy about it all. I'm back at work now and, as a rep, I'm on the road all day, so I can't even begin to tell you how happy I am that I don't have to be getting messy in dodgy public toilets. I know they've been around since the 1930s, but I've got to say it is the most liberating thing for women since the pill and the vote!! I've shared it with all the ladies in my mother's group and I know at least 2 of them will seriously look into it. :D Happy me!!

That is fantastic to hear. I have had two AF visits since getting my cup also and have had the same happy relationship as you described-apart from two small 'incidences' which were my own fault. As icky as this may sound, I am going to share it anyway so that if anyone else also experiences it, they may know why.
The first time, I was in a rush and just didn't put it in far enough and ended up with major leakage (I think I may have had it angled strangely!) . The second time I pushed it too hard and I had horrendous pain against my rectum (told you this would be icky:D). So a quick refitting and all was well.

I am especially pleased to hear you mention the teenage girl who may be interested. I was thinking the other day what will happen when my 6yo DD 'comes of age'. I am happy to allow her to make her own decision about what she will use but hopefully my example will be enough to show her a different way. The good news there is that 4 of us bought our cups together and we all have daughters around the same age, so hopefully they will all think it's cool!

I have talked to a couple of other mums who seem interested too, so we are making an impact-one woman at a time! :smiliedance:

Now that's the kind of advertising cups/cloth need!

It's really wonderful that it's working well for you. Gives you a totally different outlook on menstruating I think.

Funkychicken - I don't think there's every tmi when you're talking about menstruation, inserting cups, leaking, etc

I have to agree with Gremily - I'm so happy to have found you guys!! I was worried about the TMI when talking about incorrect positioning as well - my pelvic floor is still nothing like it was BL (Before Lily) and I can only imagine how fab it would have been to try a cup when things were all 'normal' down there, but now this is my new normal  . My cup still lists to the right, but my bub is only 8mth old and I imagine that *nothing* is going to be normal again down there until I have a new normal after family. The wonky placement doesn't affect its effectiveness though and it still didn't leak, so I am very happy.

I also think it is fantastic that a teen would think a cup is soooo waaaay cool (her words, not mine) and I can only hope that Lily will think of it as the norm when she's a teen and not an alternative.

My next mission is to look into cloth liners, so that I can stay as next to nature as possible :) .

Funny, my BIL (DH's brother) was telling me about how he washes SIL's cloth pads by hand - wouldn't it be nice if all guys were that liberated? He was also a great resource for me while I was looking into alternatives. I will be very proud to tell them about my cup adventures when I next get the chance and I'm sure they'll be happy to hear.

Grem - thanks so much for all your advice and your fab support. My mum used to tell me how women should never criticise each other and should always stick together. I'm so glad I found this thread for all the support I've got here. Moderators take note!!

 Are you serious?! I think we'd all die for a partner like that!!

Most definitely. If we're able to give positive support it makes a world of difference. Thanks :)

It's great that it's working so well for you, and fabulous that your niece is so interested - I remember thinking how gross the idea of tampons were when I first heard of them as a young girl. Not that disposable pads were much better! I think I would have much preferred a cup had the option been available to me back then, it just seems so much 'cleaner' IYKWIM, and having to change it less frequently is a definite plus.

Hear, hear! Your mum sounds like a wise woman.
It is this very reason that I was so drawn to BH in the beginning-the support and advice that member's offered one another was, and still is, fantastic.

Gremily, you have been such a strong supporter of BH member's, not just in the cloth threads but everywhere and I want to thank-you for for all your advice and encouragement shown to me. You should hear me when I talk about cups to other women-I parrot what you say here! :D

:o :D Thanks Funkychicken! I have Dd1 (who's nine) parroting aswell!! She sees the disposable pad ads (there's one that says "go out on a limb and try something new) and scoffs at them, then says something like "Yeah, why don't you try cloth pads?!" She's already advocating and she's not even menstruating yet!

For me it's about making women feel empowered instead of feeling like menstruation is the end of the world. Once you begin to discover how wonderful it can be it just gives you a different outlook. I think if I can make just one woman feel good about her period then I'll be happy :)

Of the women I've told about my cup, about 80% have said they'd look into it and I think probably realistically about 50% of them will. I don't know how many would try it though, but a few have said that the cost is not so much that if you really didn't like it, it wouldn't be a problem to go back to using disposables. I think if they were more expensive, it might stop some people giving it a try.

I was laughing at your 9yo - I think that's a great attitude for a kid to have!
