View Full Version : What happened when you stopped wrapping?
Josh is 6 1/2 months and I plan on stopping wrapping him for sleep soon (well within a couple of months). I stopped at about 3 months for 2 weeks, but it meant that Josh wouldn't sleep much at all during the day. With wrapping he sleeps up to 6 or 7 hours (on a good day) during the day. So, I'm scared about what to expect when I do stop wrapping.
Is it better when they are older? He does have a pooh bear blankie that he sleeps with (or next to), so that is something that will continue when wrapping stops. Will it be enough? I can't even get him to sleep in my arms at the moment without wrapping him first. How do you know when to stop wrapping?
I let DD tell me when she was ready. She was nearly 10 months old. One day she just fought and fought until I unwrapped her and then she went to sleep and we've never looked back. She went from being a baby that we had to wrap up soooo tightly (and then tuck her in to a sheet as well so she was seriously cacooned) to being a toddler who won't let you even rest a sheet on top of her.
The way I saw it was some kids like to go to bed with a blankie, or a toy, some kids have a dummy.....my kid got wrapped to sleep. We all slept well so I didn't see the point in changing it. I knew she'd grow out of it eventually and was more than happy to wrap her up in cot sheets if she needed it (meaning she'd be much bigger.)
Just a warning too......some babies that don't get wrapped to sleep like to be wrapped again at 7 months. Something to do with development, not sure, but if you are keen to wean your DC off wrapping maybe wait until he is 8 months and get past that 7 month mark.
we stopped wrapping our son when he was prolly about 3 months old. Although if he was hard to settle we would wrap him. He slept all thru the night and still does. He decided himself though he no longer wanted to be wrapped, coz we would wrap him put him in bed, and he would not go to sleep until he had wiggled out of the blanket.
We were like ACE1.
DS was wrapped until he was about 7 months. He loved it.
And then one night he fought and cried while I wrapped him, so I took it off and put a sleeping bag on and he went to sleep on his tummy and it's been like now for 2 months.
He actually sleeps better now too.
Bubs will tell you when they're ready I think.
:fingerscrossed:
I stopped wrapping him at 9 months. He was a little bit harder to settle that first time but not much - just a few more minutes of feeding, cuddling and rocking. After that, he was completely normal: he woke at night at the usual times, fell asleep the usual way and so forth.
both my boys hated being wrapped. The only way I could do it was from under their armpits so that their hands were free or they'd scream blue murder.. So I guess nothing really changed when I stopped lol.

DD was wanting to be unwrapped so it didnt effect her sleeping patterns at all.. In fact she actually started top sleep for longer, which was fantastic!!!

Stoped wrapping at 12weeks old as he would sleep better. we can now get him to sleep with a blanket ontop of him in our arms which we dont have a prob with. we are hoping by the time this baby comes he will self settle which we are working on slowly.:hugs:

I stopped wrapping DS at 3mths when we moved him into his own room in the cot because he would wriggle his arms out and the wrap would often go over his face. I was too scared it might happen and I wouldn't be there to move them away so I just went cold turkey and stopped one day. It took him a little bit to get used to, he started going to sleep with the back of his hands covering his eyes and his arms would eventually fall behind his head when he nodded off to sleep. His own hands would wake him up a bit then he got used to it......
I think if your bub still likes to be wrapped to keep doing it, they will let you know when to stop :)
