Hi everyone,
I was hoping someone could give me some info. We are currently in Liverpool, Sydney. How does it all work. Will he train for a certain amount of years before being moved? Is there a particular place where he would train? Holsworthy is around the corner, what are the chances of him being there? As you can tell I need to know alot but any assistance would be great thanks heaps

Hey Mummymer,

Your DH will more then likely go to Kapooka in Wagga Wagg where he will do 13 weeks of training. After that the Army will transfer him to his new unit to do initial employment training not sure how long this is for. This Transfer could be anywhere in Australia, most postings last around 2-3 years. If you get posted to a remote location (Darwin, Townsville, ect) you will both recieve two free airfares to anywhere in Australia a year. You can also give these airfares to family members to visit you.

You can find out more info on the defence web site.

Goodluck with it all and hope i have helped a little.

thanks... I thought it was 4 weeks training in wagga wagga? Also hoiw much would he get paid? As we are only living on his income at the moment. Do I go with him or does just he go to the training? When they post him somewhere do theypay for our airfares to get there or is that the 2 free ones? What about getting our furniture to where he is posted? Is that our cost? Would be great if you could help thanks heaps.

My dh is in the process of going into the army he only has the fitness test to pass and then he will be off to Kapooka Wagga wagga where he will be for 80 days alone.

Then he will do his employment training which is around 70 days at Bandiana. It all depends on what job you dh is going to do as to where he will do his employment training and for how long. But they all do the 80 day Kapooka training. You being in Sydney I would think he will go to Kapooka. We live near Melbourne and dh has to go to Kapooka and we will not get to see him for those 80 days only talk on the phone. You do get to see them though while in employment training on the weekends etc.

You do not move until your dh gets posted somewhere after the employment training and then the Army fully cover the removalist cost and help you out with settling in to your new location.

I think the 4 week training you are thinking of is if he is a reserve. Weekend army???

Just because there is a base near where you live doesn't mean he will automatically go there as it all depends on his job and where he is needed. His pay will also depend on his job too.

As maddy&kaylessmum said look up the defense website, it has loads of info.

Hope I could help a bit. Feel free to pm me I if you need anything else I will try to help

Kylie

The reserves train alongside the regs. The course has recently been shortened to four weeks in order to encourage more people to join. My DH trained as a reserve and had to do the full time, so unless it's changed completely I think the course would have been shortened for all.

Hi
Just wanted to say the training and placements are different for navy and airforce, everyone has been explaining the army training etc, so if your hubby is joining navy or airforce it will be different to what the previous replys have said. If you need any info on the army you can pm me, my brother is in the army and he only went in last year so none of the training etc has changed that much since then.
