About 6 weeks ago I was admitted to hosptial with severe abdominal pain, long story short, after several ultrasounds I was diagnosed with a cyst on my left ovary.

After follow up scans showed the cyst was growing my Dr decided it was best that it was removed by laparoscopy (sp?) and I was scheduled for surgery on 20 Feb.

I have since found out that I am pregnant (very early stages) with my 2nd baby and after consultation with the gynos my surgery has been cancelled.

I know a similar question was recently posted so I should mention that the type of cyst I have (do not know the medical name) is quite large (6.6cm) and is not expected to go away on its own so surgery further along in my pregnancy is a definate possibility.

I am feeling very anxious and worried about what this could mean for my baby and was interested in hearing from anyone who has experienced something similar? I am feeling very vulnerable at the moment so positive stories only please! :o

I would really appreciate any responses.

I am 12 weeks pregnant with my first and from day one was in severe pain.
They found a cyst on my right overy which they think I have had for years and it just flaires up every now and then but early pregnancy made it alot worst.
Mine burst - causing very very bad pains and is still there so they are just keeping an eye on it.
It is very commom and I have a friend that has had hers years but chose to leave it alone.
She had a very painfull pregnancy the whole 9 months and is now on the pill which is said to control it.
It is a personal choice weither to leave it or not so hope this helps.
I am continuing to have a very painfull pregnancy but they have since found that a lot of my pain is from my type of uterus.
Chat soon, Take care

Hi Vicki,

Thanks for your reply, it is good to know I am not the only one out there going through this.

Sorry to hear you have been in so much pain, I have been very lucky so far, have only had two really bad episodes of pain (which is why I went to hospital in the first place). Unfortunately my cyst has not ruptured and doesn't look like it will any time soon.

I have another u/sound and appt with the gynos in about a week so hoping they might put my mind at ease a bit and I might actually be able to sleep at night!

I have also found out a friend of a friend is going through this too, they are monitoring her and have told her the same thing, key hole surgery could be a possibility further down the track so I am watching her progress with interest.

Take care, let me know how you are going as you get further along. I hope the pain eases a bit!

:) Bel

Hi there.
Just saw this post and was wondering how you are going.... I am 6 weeks pregnant and had an ultrasound this afternoon. I found out that I have a 5cm cyst 'inside' my left ovary. This discovery has made me a little anxious as I am not booked into see my doctor until Friday. Not too sure what she will have to say.
I am hoping that your pregnancy is going along nicely. Keep me posted with your progress. It has made me a little better knowing that I am not the only one out there who is going through this......

Hi there,
Saw this note and thought I help to alleviate some of your concerns. My friend has a large (~8cm) ovarian cyst and is 27weeks and doing fine. the cyst is well tucked away so the docs are just leaving it. they may remove at birth if they need to, and would do so under general while doing a c-sec. my friend is completely positive about it all and hasn't had any pain. Dr's are comfortable with everything too. On another note, slightly different but similar. I was diagnosed with a rare tumor on my adrenal gland that I had surgically removed at 9 weeks. It was called a Pheochromocytoma. I already had the tumor (but didn't know) but fell pregnant while in the process of being fully diagnosed. I had the full op - general anaesthetic, morphine, pethadine, other full on drugs pre-op, Intensive care for 24 hrs afterwards - the works! all is fine now, i'm 32 weeks, bubs coped fine with the surgery and the tumor was benign. i have a 20cm scar from mid belly to my side (was safer to perform op via open cut than keyhole given i was pregnant) which has now grown to 23cms!! :) at least the scar is something to show for the drama of it all and most people, especially blokes, think the scar is cool!
Anyway, enough about me, the point being, bubs seem able to cope with situations we wish we didn't have. they seem to be sturdy little creatures.
Take care, all the best.

Hi Ladies,

I was so happy to see your posts. It really does make a difference to know there are other people out there in the same boat.

No more news from me at the moment, things seem to be going along OK. I guess I'll know more on Monday after my u/sound and appointment with my Dr. I will be 7 wks then, so only early days yet but I am sure if everything looks OK on the u/sound I will be feeling a lot more confident.

But I swear if one more person asks me if I am happy about this prg, or do I want this baby I am going to scream! (I think they are asking out of concern because of what is going on and a lot of people knew I was booked in for surgery, etc etc but still)

Just makes it a bit harder when people aren't being as positive and comforting as they could be! My husband and family have been pretty good though, worried but supportive.

I will keep in touch and let you girls know how I am doing, I hope you will do the same.

It really is amazing how strong these little bubbas can be, isn't it? To go through all of that and still be in there going strong is amazing.

Take care,
B
