Hi everyone,
Would love to hear your thoughts on which milk formula is best. I have always breast fed and still am , but have to put 6 month old bubs on formula because I have to start medication for hyperthyroidism:crying: and yes i am devastated. I bought a tin of karicare gold and he seems to drink it ok, but I found he vomits a little afterwards, which is something he doesnt do after breast milk. Is this because his body isnt used to formula or just the karicare isnt going down too well or what? Im really confused because i've always believed in breastfeeding and hating the fact I have to stop. Please help.
Hi
I have always used the amcal brand. according to my health nurse it is made by s26 and it exactly the same formula. It cost around $13 for a tin.
If you have an Amcal card every time you buy a tin you get point. By the time I had finished feeding my first baby, I had $280 credit to spend at the chemist.
Hope that helps =D
I have heard that the Gold formula's can be a little heavy on bubs tummy, maybe you could try the no gold version and see if that helps with the vomiting. Is there a lot or just a little bit of vomit?

Something I remember from when I was bottlefeeding Ronan is that once you settle on a particular brand, don't chop and change/get what's on special etc. It's not good for bub.
I think that if bub is having probs digesting formula, it's recommended that you avoid 'gold' formulas as apparently they can be harder to digest... can't remember why though!!
I also just wanted to give you a few of these: :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: I know how heartbreaking is it to stop breastfeeding when your passion and plan was to continue.... :hugs:

I dont believe you have to buy the most expensive formulas at all. both my sons were on Lactogen by Nestle and they both thrived. only about 11 bucks a can from the supermarket. It is a trial and error thing i hate to tell you. i did try s26 and that gave my boys severe constipation and they were always hungry. Wasnt satisfying them.
if bubs is vomiting big amounts you should switch to another brand. if it is only little bits like a spewy burp that is normal for some bottle fed babies.
good luck trying to find the right formula for your baby. One that bubs will thrive on!!
I have found the Nan HA formula to be good. I had my last bub on that formula. It is 100% whey, no cassien which makes it easier to digest. I would give it to this bub if I needed to put her on formula.
I would give your health nurse a call & she what brands they recommend & why, rather than trying out too many. The health nurse might even have some free sachets that you can try to see how you bubs goes on them. I have tried a few different brands & this is what I thought:
Heinz Nurture- Causes constipation
Karicare Gold- Makes bubs spew
NAN Gold- Gives bubs a lot of wind
We are currently using S26 Gold & this was recommended by my health nurse. She said that all the above formulas are pretty good but its just what suits your bubs really.
Like pookiesossige said try not to change around the brands too much, just find whats right & stick to that.
Rennie- I might give that Amcal brand a go if its made by S26- I will read the tin first though.
My twin boys were on Heinz Nurture, with no probs and it only costs $11.00 a tin:thumbsup:
