There is no question to hard or silly Even mums with lots of kids are constantley learning.

Okay I'll start with the questions. Is anyone else as terrified of miscarrying as I am? Is it normal?

We've estimated I'm about 5-6 weeks but we're going for an ultrasound on the weekend to check. I have a hyperactive (overactive) thyroid and although I haven't been on my meds for a couple of months I'm terrified I've somehow harmed my baby!!

I beat myself up about eating junk food as I'm so scared I'll lose my little bub, as I know the first trimester is when a lot of miscarriages happen. Can anyone relate, or provide advice on how to stop worrying? I think about it every day

Thanks

i cant relate to the thyroid but with my first pregnancy yes i was worried as basicly the doc said that i need to stop as it would be worrying my jellybaby so to speak. and everytime i would start to worry i would stop and think no, i have to remain calm because everything is going to be fine. With this one though i am a little worried but once again i am taking one day at a time. and have alot more support this time then i did with the last. i hope that helps

Don't stress about diet too much - with my first pregnancy I couldn't keep anything down and literally lived off McD's fries, twisties and cheetos for 2 months. I took my vitamins though to make sure I stayed healthy.

Miscarrying is a niggling fear for now, especially as I'm still so early in pregnancy but I'm not thinking too much about it. Just trying to keep myself busy and not thinking about the pregnancy for now. I haven't told anyone apart from DP yet, and probably won't until 8 - 12 weeks.

Hiya,
Phew, I'm glad to see there are others worrying like me.
I'm 5 weeks 2 days and have been feeling like Hungry Jacks for a couple of weeks, so had a whopper and fries at lunch. Now I don't feel so well, which is normal for me after eating HJ's pregnant or not.
I just wish now I had been stronger and eaten a healthy lunch, worried about bub and eating junk food.

I went for an ultrasound today to see if everything was alright with my baby and it is! The lady called it a "gestational sac" (but I prefer to think of it as bub) and said I am 5 weeks 2 days! Hurrah! Thanks so much for replying everyone :hugs:

EN - Great news that your scan was OK. Now just relax and enjoy the ride :D

As for the junk food.................that's fine as long as you balance it out with some healthy meals too. This is a good time to be pregnant. I had DD in April too and I just lived on heaps of delicious summer fruits over the summer and never put any weight on with the pregnancy.

I'm looking forward to the delicious summer salads!

2 months before DS was born, I got given a whole heap f chocolates...and I never ate any of them. It was just so unappealing with the gorgeous fresh produce around.

Ok I'm going to be no help what-so-ever, but I have never been someone who checked their cm so have no idea what it should or should not look like but I have had nothing, like, coming out at all. Not using liners or anything and I haven't noticed and discharge.
See, I told you I'd be no help hahaha.

hmmm not really related to anything prior but as it is a questions thread...
was wondering if anyone had heard that you shouldn't use electric blankets when preg? i have used it on low only a couple of times but i have since read on ninemsn (whats good for you link) that it has electro magnetic fields which aren't good for foetal development....like i don't worry enough to now learn this! has anyone else heard this? if not TURN OFF YOUR BLANKETS!!!!

Hi Jdeeh, i heard that they should be avoided during pregancy. Lucky for us, we don't own any. Long time ago, our electric blanket started smoking and almost caught fire! Lucky we were home at the time. Since then, I just looooove my fluffy hot water bottle. :D

Ohhh haven't heard that one, but we don't own an electric blanket anyways. Thanks for letting us know.

And yes I have more cm and it bubbles out, does anyone else have that problem. It is so grose!

I've heard that one but more from the point of view of overheating your poor already overheated body... for the same reasons you shouldn't have a sauna, or sit in a hot tub for too long or exercise to exhaustion - the extreme stress on the body is more than it can deal with and can risk the little jellybean...

and to answer the earlier question on worrying about miscarrying... I'm petrified! I don't know that if I did miscarry I could go through this first trimester again just to have a bub. I'm having a shocking time and while I'm not projectile :barf: I've got so many of the other symptoms just soooooo bad I can barely think. And I just got a possible high whatsit on my pap smear... scared silly it will impact... has anyone else had an irregular pap smear? :gloomy:

I still use my electric blanket, just leave it on low, otherwise I freeze.....Brrrrr
I thought it had to do with your body temp rising too much, but as I read about it, they said you normally know when you are too hot and either leave the spa or turn the blanket down!

sparkleymum

what kind of irregular cells did your pap show? Most of the time its nothing to worry about. If you dont understand make an appt with your GP and they can explain it to you.

So did they say you need colposcopy? Or just a repeat test in 6 months? Sometimes a pap can come up with cell changes but they are not specified and when they do a repeat its all normal. Sometimes there is just not enought cells on the slide or something like that.

So don't worry yet. Best thing you can do is get the information. So ask your GP to explain what it means.

Well I have abnormal cells, had a colposcopy and everything before this pregnancy and they said I could still get pregnant. As soon as I have this bubs, they will have to be very diligent and test carefully just incase it has changed from low grade. See I had a low grade abnormality after having Lachlan (this was my 6 week check) and they said it is very common to get this result after pregnancy so I had another papsmear in 6 months and still low grade that is why they sent me for a colposcopy to ensure they have covered the whole cervix. Turns out I have warts in my cervix that I have probably had for years and the pregnancy brought them about as my body was too busy worrying about the bub not me. So I think it called a HPV virus and 90% of women have it and don't know or it sits dormant. Apparently I have a high change of cervical cancer now, so I am just hoping it goes away in its own good time and there is a high chance that it just disapears. Hope that helps, but yes I have abnormalities that they aren't worried about whilst being pregnant.

Kristi...you will def have to have one after your little one is born!! i admit is uncomfortable but soooo important..so make sure you do!!
Soquick, i didn't have irregular pap cells but when i was pg with DS it was discovered i had polyps on my cervix at 17weeks. I had to have them removed and checked in a lab, and i was scared that all that activity in that region would stir things up (it was like a pap smear with scrapings - sorry if TMI!) My obgyn reassurred me there was zero risk and that it was important to have them checked as it prob would be worse to let it continue. Just ask as many questions as you have and make sure they reassure you that everything will be ok. good luck!

Kristi, I sooo agree with jdeeh. It was very hard at first but now my boys are older I love watching them play together. They are the best of friends (and the worst of enemies at times... ) but all in all it was worth it.

Kristi Kristi Kristi my girl!!! Naughty Naughty!! vewy naughty!! You must and I will rind your doctor and make sure that you do get one done!!! It's so so so important luvee and basically now that you've told us that you haven't had one, we'll be on your back for ever!! LOL

I had abnormal cells back when I was 20 I think I was so after #1. I had a colposcopy as well and extensive cells burnt off. I had a slightly abnormal pap 6 months after but not another colposcopy and then 6 months after that, everything was clear! I get one every year to be on the safe side now!! I dread it and have to 'mow the lawn' everytime but when you have family, it's just so important to prevent rather than cure!!!

Well, a passionate about that topic as you can see! I'll leave it at that!!! lol

I was recently considering the cervical vaccine (Gardasil) but found out that I am too old.
There is now a new vaccine (Cervarix) which covers women up to 46 years of age. Looks like I may have to wait now till bub comes...

Hi Girls,

I just got a quick question. I had a BT done at 15dpo and the levels were 385. Not sure if this is good or bad. Tried to google but every answer is different...Just curious

My GP also checked iron levels and it was low:( , so I'll have to start supplementing. Anyone had a similar situation? Just wondering.

It's week 4 and 4 days for me and so far no ms. I don't really feel pregnant apart from feeling sleepy and sore (.Y.). Apart from that I feel :smiliedance:

Lots of :hugs:

Here is some info about the vaccine. http://www.gsk.com.au/products_vaccines_detail.aspx?view=122

I don't think I will get vaccinated as I am married so neither me nor my husband will have any other sexual partners (only each other) so there is no risk of catching HPV as neither of us has it. If I was still on the dating sceen I would definitely get it. It's going to be a life saver for many young women.

Like the rest of you I absolutely HATE getting a smear test and I only had my last one (the day before this bubs was conceived) cause the Dr said as we were trying for bubs might as well get fully checked. PHEW, for another 3 years anyway.

Nikki R - pregnancy / cervical cancer hehe, they are similar NOT! lol. just kidding

Regarding your hcg level you said you were 4 weeks and 4 days when levels were taken. If that is the case then as long as the levels are between 40 and 2000 then your levels are absolutely fine.

Now as for Iron levels, mine was extremely low apparently, but I was really sick with the flu when I had mine taken so I am guessing that contributed alot! Hoping to get my levels done again soon to see if there is some improvement. I take Elevit that has quite a bit of iron in it, so it didn't really make sense that they were so low.

Sparkleymum - definitely is going to be a life savor for many young women cause apparently HPV alot of women have and don't even realise. That is me and now I am at higher risk of cervical cancer. Bugger.

 Thanks Shereejoy. This happens when you try to keep up with the thread by scanning through the posts. I just didn't go far enough... arrr.

I am a bit puzzled by the low levels too, especially since I have been taking a multivitamin a day since January, oh well. I feel great and just like yourself will keep my eyes on it.

In regards to the vaccine, my sister also has been diagnosed with HPV due to abnormal papsmear. If I have a daughter, I would make sure she has the vaccine. As for myself, I don't think it will hurt to have one, even though hubby and I go back 18 years... :p

I saw on another thread that was about our plans a question that said 'cot or co-sleep'. What does that mean? I kindof guess it wouldn't mean in the same bed so is it a crib beside you? Or does it mean the same bed?

cheezelkat
22-08-2007, 11:51 PM
Cosleeping in general is with the parents in a shared bed, but some people can also mean it as a sidecar arrangement. The side of the cot is taken off and pushed against the parents bed, and baby sleeps there.

I've coslept with my DS since birth, it was the only thing that saved my sanity in the early months!

Yes BronnyGrace I have been having weird dreams....

The first one is what made me test for a BFP in the first place..I had two dreams one at 2 DPO and 1 at 11DPO which in which I dreamed that I had tested and got a + on two different brands of tests.

Then now the last 2 night's I have been having um how to say this nicely..horny dreams :p !!! I havent had a naughty dream since I was UTD with Eloise !!!

Hi I have a question total unrelated to everyone else's...... When should you stop wearing under-wire bras?? I have heard they stop milk duct production or something is this right??? ta:)

sillysideup
04-09-2007, 12:59 PM
Hmmm - never heard that myself and am still wearing mine (only just under 8 weeks mind you). My usual theory is to go with my normal bras until they don't fit. Then I go buy maternity bras which do and wear them for the remainder of my pregnancy and through the bf stage. By then I usually can't wait to chuck em out and get back into my normal ones!!

OMG, great question!! My boobs have like exploded!! I don't remember them getting this big or sore this early but boy oh boy are they big and sore!! I'm just over 6 weeks and this happened just over a week ago I suppose! I'm thinking that i need to go and buy a new bra and may as well make it a maternity bra I suppose!! I want all the milk that is needed so that i can bf for at least 6 months! Cool, I'm out shopping tomorrow then!! lol

Hey Girls!!!

I didn't realise you could buy maternity bras this early! I just went and bought 2 new normal bras in my whopping new size. I didn't even think to get maternity ones - when do they stop blooming?? I am so clueless I thought they just kept growing! :o
