Hi everyone

I got engaged a couple of weeks ago and DF and I are planning a small ceremony for October this year. I will be 8 months pregnant and am searching the net for nice wedding/formal dresses. It's going to be a small civil ceremony so I'm not after an over the top wedding dress just something nice and simple. Does anyone know of any good shops? I didn't think it would be this hard!!

I found some nice ones that are overseas . .lol . .maybe you can order something then get it fitted to you properly once it arrives.

Or perhaps your best bet is a dress that kind of drops from under the breasts, that way it easily covers your bump, kind of like all the new fashions at the moment.

Perhaps a trip to some bridal shops or dress warehouses and try a few on to get an idea of what would fit over that gorgeous bump then!

CONGRATS.. What an exciting time.

I'd prob go for a strapless dress that falls from under your boobs. I'd hit the normal bridal shops, or maybe go to Myer or Daid Jones cause they have nice stuff thats not traditional bridal but still very classy.

Or have you checked out ebay.. bit tricky cause u cant try the dress on, but may give you some insperation..:D

Hello
Congratulations on your engagement Moops.
Hope you don't mind but I thought I would mention a particular dress.
Have a look at DZage dresses they have a website and are UK based. I had a dress made very similar to D9508 style, it is a grecian style dress and so lovely. Beautiful detail on the bodice and a scarf that floats off the front, also cross over beaded straps on the back. It is a bit had to see all this on the picture provided on the website. If you can get to a store that stocks this dress it is well worth a look.
Good luck with the search and wedding.

Congrats moops.I myself am in the same boat.I am getting married on the 6th of october but will be roughly just over 7mths.I have searched and searched and as almost all the websites etc have long mail order lists and postage dates,Have resorted to getting a dress made.It will cost me roughly 400-500 dollars but the cost of having one shipped was the same.It also means that it will fit on the day.Good luck

Thanks Kizmet!!

You girls make me laugh! I have no problem with you taking an interest in my wedding, I need all the help I can get!!! It's very weird to think that in 3 months I will be married with a son!

Oh my god Brodie I'm getting married on the same day!! How weird is that?! I'm glad someone is in the same boat as me, I have generally found that a lot of the maternity dresses are ok but not flash and we still want to look nice!

Thanks for the Ebay tip I have found this one that I really like but I am asking if they can make it knee length to make it a little more casual as its a small wedding.

What do u think?

awww I like it long too, it might not hang as nicely if its shorter iykwim
BUT im sure the people sewing it will take that into account and alter it slightly to incorporate the shorter length

Gd luck i hope they can do it!
Great price too:thumbsup:

I seen that they are willing to shorten it for free which is good but I would be asking for the rest of the material as that is quite a lot they would be cutting off. It could be handy for something else.... for example I made a christening dress out of the same material as my wedding dress but you could have a handbag made or anything. I don't imagine it would be a problem as they are charging you for the whole dress.

I got married at 6 months pregnant and it avoid the underwear line I got preggie pants from Debras in Wentworthville Sydney. They were brilliant they covered my whole stomach and gave me some added support whilst giving a seamless appearance. They were recommended by my dress maker (I was huuuuge already) De bra's are online if you are interested. I also had a bra put in my dress as it gave me better support than a bra would've at the time.
Another tip is to consider that your legs/ankles may be swollen with the pregnancy by that stage.

Hope you have a great day. I loved the fact I didn't have to diet for my wedding

Hmmmm I'm unsure about the length now! The reason why I wanted it shorter was because this is supposed to be our smaller more casual wedding and then we will have a proper one next year. I just didnt want to look over the top with a big long dress, there are only going to be 10 adults 4 kids attending.

That is a good idea about getting the spare fabric to use as a christening gown, allthough I am having a boy so it may have to wait till I get a little girl!

I have found another dress I love but the back is back less, I mean really! Do they really expect a pregnant woman not to wear a bra??!

Hi Moops, firstly congrats on both your upcoming wedding and the near arrival of your little one. I love the dress you saw on ebay. I'd definitely go long, I don't think it would flow as nicely if it was shorter. You could always have this style remodelled later on to use again if you were going to have a bigger wedding after your pregnancy, I think it could be adjusted quite easily. Who cares if it's more formal for a small wedding - it's your day, go ahead it will be stunning.

Keep us posted, we'd love to see pics!

Well I have made a decision!

I have gone for dress number 3! I know dress number 2 was more appropriate for the occasion but it was probably my least favourite out of the three. I really like the dress I chose and I was thinking that if for some reason the wedding doesn't go ahead next year or is delayed (with the new bubs etc) then I want to look back on this wedding and be happy with what I wore etc.

I will post pics of the wedding for you to see, thanks for all your help!

congratulations...i like your choices however if you are that far along I would pick something with support...love style 2.... if you are in the Uk I saw an ad for a new store that just opened called expectant brides...I think it is in London..not sure but worth trying to locate them...good luck and have a great wedding day

Thanks for that! But it looks like that website is just a search engine for other sites that I have already visited. There is such a gap in the market for nice maternity dresses! Oh well I have made my decision now so hopefully it looks ok!!:fingerscrossed:

i dont really agree with spending alot of money on wedding dress if you can get a nice good quality one cheaper then why not? but it does depend on your style i suppose. what is the average price for a lengha nowadays? not to heavy... ive already pictured my wedding lengha in my head so i might get it made but that depends on the costings>
