Hi there,

I came off the pill at the end of last year and we just started trying for a baby at the beginning of this month. My periods have been erratic since, but I used the mucus monitoring method to work out when I was ovulating this month, which was around day 15 of my cycle - does this mean that I'll have a 28 day cycle this month? My period is now a few days overdue (if I count a 28 day cycle) and I am having a lot of (what I've read are) early pregnancy symptoms (sore breasts, bloating, mild nausea, nasal congestion, increased mucus, lethargy etc.), but I've taken two home tests recently (one a week ago and one yesterday) which were both negative.

Has anyone else experienced this? I've heard of "phantom pregnancies" when a woman wants a baby so badly that she has psycho-symatic symptoms but isn't actually pregnant - could this really be happening to me?!? It makes me feel a bit like a freak! :(

I'd really appreciate some advice, thanks! Jen x

Hi Jen.

Sometimes it can take a little bit of time for a pregnancy test to show "true" results. I was pretty darn positive that I was pregnant with my second child but had had 2 negative tests. It wasn't until I was two weeks late with my period that the test showed positive.

I too have heard about phantom pregnanies. It is amazing what mind-over-matter can do to our bodies. A lot of people have phantom symptoms of all sorts of medical conditions if they are truly convinced that they have a certain disease or condition.

My advice is to hang in there and try the test in a few more days if you haven't got your period. If it turns out you're not, then at least it is fun trying. The most important thing you can do is relax. It is amazing how easily you can fall pregnant when you just sit back and enjoy the show.

Best of luck to you,

Tracey

Hi there,

I to am experiencing the wonders of pregnancy symptoms ( period 4 days late, bloated, very tired, sore breasts and slight nausea ) but when I do a pregnancy test I shows a negative result. This is so frustrating. Any advice?

I feel pregnant ( I have already been through a pregnancy ) but with the results on the test coming up negative it too is making me feel like I am imagining things.

Hi girls,

I had this aswell only a few weeks ago, I had sore boobs for about a month before the test showed positive. I knew I was pregnant just wasn't showing yet. You have to remember too, that you know your body best, so trust what you feel.

Hang in there, I know it is an anxious time.

Good luck, i hope you get the results you want!!!!!

Hey Cazil. It turns out that I was quite possibly pregnant back then, but when my period eventually came (after some time), it was quite heavy/clotty and my GP thought that I may have experienced an early miscarriage. We won't ever know for sure - but if you look into the stastistics on miscarriage - early ones before a pregnancy has even been detected are amazingly common. It was a really difficult time for me and I hit quite a low patch afterwards - all this lead to a PCOS diagnosis, which I was treated for from about June last year.

The good news is that I (we) kept persevering and I am now 3 months pregnant and all seems to be going very well (touch wood!).

I completely sympathise with how frustrating it can be to feel pregnant but to be getting negative test results - especially if it's something you want very much. If you are just home testing at this stage, it wouldn't hurt to go to your GP and get him/her to do a blood test, just to be sure.

Good luck to you - do keep me posted. Jen x

I am experiencing the same thing at the moment. I feel sick, going to the toilet heaps, cramping, ovary pains and headaches. AF isn't due till next week, but I am on the pill though but I am a bit worried that DH and I BD while I was taking antibiotics in the middle of my cycle, so not sure if they affected my pill or not. Or maybe I am wishfull thinking that I am pregnant.

Hi there, yes I went through the same symptoms as you did, ie. like missing periods, soreness in breast, going off food, to name a few. I had 2 pregnant tests twice & it come out negative. sometimes pregnant test are never accurate. With my instinct, I just sorta knew that I was somehow pregnant. So I decided to go to the Drs and had urine test & it turned out that I was definately pregnant. So am 20 wks pregnant, & everything is going along fine.

To be on the safe side, it would be best to go to the Drs to see if you are pregnant or not, or if it is something else the reason why you could be missing your periods. Could be a number of reasons.

Hope for the best and good luck.

Helen

I had 2 negetive results before showing a positive and I knew I was pregnant as I had all the symptoms. Esp sore boobs!! omigoodness!!

I think it also depends on the brand of pregnancy test that you use. I read a post a few weeks ago saying that the fortel brand can be faulty. :banghead:

I used fortel and didnt get a positve result until I was roughly 6 weeks pregnant but I knew from about 4 weeks.

I have my fingers crossed for you! :fingerscrossed:

Sounds like what happens to me before every period......The joys of PCOS!
My aunty had similar symptoms for years then needed a hysterectomy. Could be anything from a hormonal imbalance or something more. One way to find out. See the dr.

Hi All,

I just had pregnancy test using Crystal Clear brand. And its negative.

My period is not regular so I may not predict well my menstruation cycle. But for the past few days, I feel almost all the symptoms sore breast, back and forward to the bathroom, fatigue so quickly, feeling so craving often.

My question is, should i do re-test for this? Or maybe definetely im not pregnant?

Thank you.
