Hi just wanted to know if anyones kids have had any imaginary friends? My almost 5 year old started prep yesterday and teacher asked me if she had an imaginary friend, i had no idea if she did, she sometimes talks to herself while playing but i thought it was role playing and better than playing in silence, should i be concerned or am i looking too much into this?

No need for concern - imaginary friends are very normal - they are said to be a sign of a very imaginative child:p . Your child's teacher should know this - it's part of childhood development - i hope she didn't concern you?

Oh Kate thanks so much for your reply, im so relieved, yeah i have been concerned over it and dont want to keep questioning Chloe over it. She says to me she's using her imagination, but the teacher did concern me with her comments asking also if she plays with other kids, so of course i start worrying, it was the first day, of course shes going to be bit nervous anyway i think maybe i did overreact to her comments but shes my baby and shes off to school....

Hannah has an imaginary friend named Clare who has now inherited 2 adorable black puppies  .

Perfectly normal development stage for children.

Let their imagination run free and wild.
