When cam babies have cows milk? and when starting to give it do you diltue it or mix with formula or just have it staright? I have no Idea.....
Hi Claire,
I posted a thread about this a couple of days ago. Everyone on the site was very helpful, and some said that they had and you could start weaning bubs onto cows milk around 9 months. However, through further investigation (rang riverton health) they said that bubs should not start being weaned to cows milk until 11 months and then should be fully drinking it by 12 months. Also to start half cows milk/half water for the first week to introduce bubs in slowly.
The nurse told me (as I'm still bfing) to gradually introduce formula first on bubs morning muesli/cereal to get a taste for it and then try giving it to her in a cup at breakfast and lunch time, while she is eating, and then offer her the breast after those meals if none/or not enough formula was drunk!
I think it is definitely going to be a slow process for me and DD as she doesn't like the taste of formula much and keeps spitting it out...............and I'm pretty much getting over the whole breastfeeding thing, well for every feed anyway!:(
One day..after my baby was more than 12 months old..I just ran out of formula and timed it really badly to do the 50/50 thing...so I gave him 100% cows milk...and he didnt even notice.
I know everyone suggests a slow transitional introduction....but mine didnt seem to have any problems. Granted he's not fussy when it comes to eating absolutely anything.
