The sign said 'We have a case of Chicken Pox in our Room'

I went to pickup DS from Daycare today and this is what I saw. The virus he had last week had him cranky, off his food, a slight temp, many red spots which turned into pimples (not blotchy skin but pimples) but then which disappeared by last Friday.

Is there such a thing as a mild case of Chicken Pox ?

From what i have heard a mild case of chickenpox means that will probably catch it again later on.

You're right Veve - flat lemonade DOES fix everything ! My Mum still tells me to drink it when I'm feeling a bit off.

Hmmm...I'd best get him his chicken pox needle just in case. He was due for it 2 months ago - very slack Mummy....:o

My 2 yr old DS had a mild case of chicken pox about 3 months ago. He had cold and flu symptoms at first as well as croup then the spots appeard, his didn't seem to be itchy and he had abot 30-40 on his tummy, nappy area, legs and arms, they lasted for about a week or so then slowly faded. My GP told me that because it was very mild that he recomended that i get his needle done anyway as there is a good chance he will catch it again. Maybe ask your gp about it and explain what your ds had.

If they arent immunised its more than likely whether they get a mild case or the full blown deal they can get it again ! My uncle had chicken pox 3 times yep thats right 3 times while a young boy & then as an adult he has had shingles ! Auugh !

Mild is possible but its hard to say now but from what i understand the spots wouldnt have gone that quickly even if it was mild.
Anyways the main thing is he is better now :)

Chicken pox went through ds1 daycare 3 time while i was preg with ds2 luckily he missed out every time even when his best friends got it so could he have an immunity to it or do you think he was just lucky.?

I have never had chickenpox even though i ahve been exposed to it many times over ... I guess I must have an immunity too!

My kids had chicken pox approx 2 ½ years ago and neither had a bad case ... in fact, Bella got a total of 7 spots! Daniel didn't get any more than about 20 ... so I guess I may have the kids getting another dose one day.

My little one had her chicken pox vaccination last wednesday, on Saturday she started getting spots, I was told she might get a reaction and a few (2-5) spots so I didn't worry, now she has about 12 and a fever and.... a MILD CASE of chicken pox!! They say maybe she was exposed just before the vaccination and now has a mild case because she had the vaccination? who knows - anyway not that I regret the vaccination - I'm totally pro-vaccination - the flip side to the story is that I've never had chicken pox before!! Strangely enough I had my vaccination 3 weeks ago and am due for my booster in 2 weeks - so fingers crossed I'll avoid it:fingerscrossed:

ANYWAY my questions are:
1. How long is she infectious? is it until the pox dry up?
2. Do I do anything for her other than fluids and panadol for fever?

Thanks

Hi there...sorry to barge in on your thread ...hope you don't mind.

I was just wondering what chicken pox look like the first and second day they appear.

My 14 month old little girl has broken out in millions of little red dots all over her body (except her stomach and back!! ) She has had them for a day and a half now and it seems to be getting worse....some of them are turning into red blotches.

Does this sound like chicken pox?? I thought at first it might be insect bites as we went the park 12 hours earlier, and also as she hasnt got any on her stomach and back (which were covered with t-shirt) But more and more keep showing up:confused:

She doesn't seem to have a temp or be off colour at all but she is trying to itch them?

Anyone got any ideas???

I always thought chicken pox started in the warm parts of your body...belly, armpits, back, etc...
What you are describing sounds more like a reaction to something. My DS had a rash appear on his arms and legs the first time he ate vegemite, it spread for a few days then disappeared. It didn't seem to bother him but I had him checked by a dr just to make sure it wasn't anything serious. He outgrew the vegemite allergy eventually too.

I'd take her to the dr just to be sure. Hope your little girl is ok :)

sounds like a rash to me - our chicken pox aren't so numerous and are like blisters rather than spots.

I still have questions please?

1. How long does the fever last for? Although she hasn't got a raging fever it seems to hang around all day despite panadol and fluids:(
2. Still wondering how long they are infectious for?

Any pox experts out there?

As far as I can remember from when I was working, kids had to stay home til all the blisters had dried up. The stuff inside them can spread the disease, as well as the sneezing, coughing, etc...So I guess they are contagous til then :)
Hope that helps :)

My DS had this just before the Day Care Chicken Pox incident. He had heaps of red dots (nothing on his tummy or back where I thought they should be). He was off his food and generally not himself. He had a low grade fever. I took him to the Dr who said it was a virus but they didnt know what it was. Within 4-5 days it was gone.

Hope she feels better soon - if you are worried take her to the Dr.

I just found out this morning that one of our managers here is off work with Shingles.

I have had Chicken Pox when I was a baby so hopefully I should be allright. I am 18 weeks pg now.

The only reason I know I have had Chicken Pox is because it was one of Mum's little "stories" about me. She would say how I got Chicken Pox everywhere and then she would pause and go "And I mean EVERYWHERE". :o

I told her to stop saying it in the end. Gawd.
