My 5mth old hasn't any teeth yet but when its nearin the end of a feed he clamps down on my boob with his gums and it hurts.
Obviously chatising him isn't going to do anything so what can i do to stop him doing it? Any ideas?

Chastising them DOES work, even at that young age: my son was 4 months when he got his first 2 teeth and boy, did it hurt when he bit me. I smacked him on the arm, the first time it was a reflex and I did it before even realising I had done it due to the extreme pain!! I was as shocked as him, I think. Not that hard mind you, but he soon got the message. I felt really mean but he learned really fast and now never ever bites and has 8 teeth.
One great method I had was the pull him off and put him down one!
He'd go a bit "WAAAAA" because he wanted the boob, and I was, forcefully, taking him away (wihtout hurting him) after half a minute or so, I'd put him back on the boob, and repeat if needed (generally not so)

I second what Seekrit suggests. I would also give a firm NO and pull him off when he bit down.
I to used a similar method of telling bubs no and removing her from the boob for a few seconds. She was 5 mths the first time. It really works. She is now 15 mths, still feeding and i can count the number of times she's bitten me (with and without teeth) on my hands!!!!
Yeah, more natural reactions from me - I screamed "No!" (because it bloody hurt!) and pulled him away. His little face crumpled and he sobbed. But frankly, at that time, I was more concerned with my poor nipple
He still does have an experimental bite every now and then (not hard, just testing his boundaries, I think - he looks directly up at me as he does it) and I pull him off, look dead at him and say "NO!", loud, clear and low, without a hint of a smile on my face. Again there are some wails from him because happy mummy had gone away but the message gets through and he doesn't do it again.
I love the bites now... when you're distracted by something and he smiles, looks sideways at you and just nibbles, not enough to hurt but enough to be cheeky!
