Hiya All...

Just wanted to pass on some info. that i've recently discovered.

I was getting rather desperate to help my son with his extreme farting problem...the grunting and groaning....the difficulties associated with sleeping...the difficulties sometimes associated with feeding.

We have used all the drops...which seem to have some relieving effect for him. But they never fixed the problem. I'd take him off the drops and it would all come back with a vengance.

Someone suggested seeing a Naturopath. So off we went. She used iridology- where they look at your eyes which are window into your body. They see where your body is not working right and they give you recommendations from there.

Turns out that my dear little boy has a 'leaky gut'. For some reason he has never got enough flora (acidophilos sp?) to help his intestines to break down the food he's eating. So as a result he has become clogged and created a leaky gut. Hence the FOUL smelling wind and difficulties passing it.

We were given a powder to put in his formula (NO FUSS!!-YAY!) to help break up the stuff clogged in his intestines. Then we also add an inflammatry powder to help with the pain and inflammed intestines. We've seen great results so far....he passess wind much easier now. When his system is clear- could take a few weeks- then we stop all the powder and move on to adding flora to his bottles for a while. Ths will help his digesitive system function as per normal.

I guess i'm hoping that this info. will help someone out there with a bubs that has bad wind problems or digestive problems...and that this will encourage them to go and see a GOOD naturopath.

Sorry to rabble....

Mrs Little & Son.

My 2 week old baby has been diagnosed with the same thing. I started him on the Flora yesterday (he is breastfed, so I put the powder on my finger and he sucks it off) and I am not allowed dairy in my diet either. This was diagnosed by a chiropractor - he could tell by looking at my baby's spine where the problem was, and he's confident he can cure or at least vastly improve the problem in 3 - 4 visits. God I hope so!! I want a happy baby! The chiro isn't cracking his bones or anything scary like that, just really gentle massage on his head and back.

Just wondering if the powder you mention is Natren Lifestart? This has just been recommended to me by a natropath for my 5 week old son who produces the most amazing amount of bowel wind for someone so little. He also suffers alot of pain which seems to be as the wind is working it's way through his system. I have tried Brauer Colic Relief with no succes and currently have him on Infacol which does seem to give him some relief but hasn't totally relieved all his pain.

The powder i'm using is by a company called metagenics and then i've been told to follow up with flora.

My son does basically disgusting poo. The paediatrician suggested a lactose free diet, which seems to half the problem but he still goes four to five times a day. He’s not absorbing much food, as his weight gain over the past 6 months is 400 grams. A friend who’s a naturopath said he has leaky gut and has put him on a really strict diet and he has drops to take. He believes his body has created lots of allergens because it has been going on for so long. Just wondering if you could let me know if any of your babies have the same problem with pooing. My son is 13 months old and his have become unformed (when he stared solids they were normal looking - firm and easy to clean). They are smelly, sometimes liquidly, sometimes very pale. His sleep has become very broken as well.

Any info would be great!

Hi musicalmummy,

Thanks for your reply. The symptoms are that my son is pooing around four or five times a day. It started around six months ago, hes 13 and a half months old. The poo is incredibly messy and leaks out the sides of his nappy. I use the next size up in nappies to try and stop it happening so much. Sometimes his poo is so liquidy that if you don’t catch it straight away, I’ll find myself mopping the floor. He went through a stage where his poo was pale nearly white, with a toothpaste consistency. He passes a lot of undigested food as well. He hates having his nappy changed and who can blame him. The naturopath has recommended a hypoallergenic diet. No eggs, gluten (in wheat and oats), dairy, nuts, fresh fruit or vegies (these all have to be cooked). He also gave me some homeopathic drops to repair the bowel. Let me know if you need more info. I’m desperate to fix this as it’s getting the household down. And it feels insane, its just food for gods sake!
