Hiya

Im so confused and hope someone can help. for the last year i have been recieveing family tax benefits A and B. I am not sure if i have to do a tax return? or when my partner does his, does he deal with them? This is prob a really "stupid" question but i am very new to the whole family assistance/centrelink thing! and the people i call just confuse me more...

if you havent worked no u arent required to do a tax return. Your partners works? then he does. Once he has done his you must advise centrelink of non tax lodgement and they will pay your suppliments

As far as I understand it, your partner has to do one, and when he gets his return statement, you show that to centrelink. If you're not working, you still have to declare to centrelink and the ATO that you don't have to do a tax return. Then they should process your FT benefits.

Grab a tax pack from a newsagent (it's free). In there is a form you fill out for non-lodgement and post to the ATO.

ring up family assistance office and advise them that u do not need to lodge a tax return.
ur partner does a tax return and sends it to ato.
u go and grab some forms from centrelink - claiming the FTB. depending if u recieve lump sum or not.
