Hi, I have one child already who is 4yrs old. He was conceived surprisingly quickly without any problems.

We have been trying for #2 for approx 18month. Both myself & hubbie & hubbie have had tests and have been confirmed as fertile. We're in our mid-late 30's.

I had a laparoscopy & dye treatment to check tubes about 3months ago where a small patch of endo was found and treated and a couple of adhesions also found and removed. My tubes are fine so nothing too drastic found. The gyno advised that the chances of conception after a lap are increased for 3 months after to Op and if I didn't conceive during this period to see him and discuss IVF. We are coming near to the end of the 3 months so hopefully attempt 3 will be the one.

IVF at this stage just seems a little bit drastic to me. I will discuss alternatives with him before agreeing to anything.

I would be interested to hear from other people that have been or are in a similar situation to me. What did you try or would recommend?

Thanks,
Ince x

Hi Ince

I'm in a very similar boat to you. Both DH and I are both fertile (I had a lap. last December) yet nothing is happening (on our 23rd cycle). There is a step before IVF and that's IUI or Artificial Insemination. You can do a natural or medicated cycle. Even though I O on my own, I'm currently doing an IUI with clomid. This means that you can have 2 or possible 3 follicles release an egg which gives you a better chance of one of them being fertilised (of course the risk of multiples is higher as well).

It costs about $1000 where I go and we used to get $480 back from Medicare but now we've reached the threshold, we get $800 back. I'm on my 3rd IUI cycle at the moment and will probably do 6 in total before thinking of moving over to IVF next year.

PM me if you want any more details
