I am not suwhat to do about this so I'll ask your advice.
I bought a two pj set for my 8 1/2 mth old. It was washed, worn then washed again. I went to put it on him last night and do up the buttons on the shirt. the top button was missing. Ok I thought it must have come of in the wash. I'll just skip it and do up the rest. There was no second button and the thrid one dropped off when I touched it. The forth (and last) button was hanging by a mear thread. Now I know this can happen from time to time. I can sew the buttons back on myself and make sure that the ends are well secured this time. My concern is that these are pjs that are sold in sizes 0000-1 which are little kids who are most likely to stick a loose button in their mouth and choke on it!!!

The garment was from a major department store and though I am not after a refund or anything I feel as if I should complain and bring this potential danger to their attention. It is quite obvious that these buttons were machine sewn and not tied off.

Any advice on whether I should persue the matter? By the way the pjs are a boys long length foot in pant and long sleeve button up top. The pants are light blue and covered in helicopters and the top is also light blue with only a little helicoptor print. So if you own a pair check the buttons!!!

Yes. Follow it up with the department store you bought it from and also the safety authority for your state. If you call the Dept of Consumer Affairs (or similar in each state) you should be able to get some idea who to talk to.

I bought a fleece blanket for DD when she was a baby, very plain but with zigzag edge stitching all around. One night I checked on her and half the stitching had come undone and was starting to wrap around her! I didn't report it but should have and am forever kicking myself when I see the blanket.

I didn't really appreciate much of the advice I received while pregnant, but not to buy anything with buttons was definitely one I stuck to! I just don't trust them!

I would definitely write a letter to the manager of the department store. I was a PA for a store manager of one of the "biggies" and if we ever received feedback like this, we would have offered you a refund and then asked the buyers in head office to pursue the matter with the manufacturer.

You could also start by phoning KidSafe, for Queensland Telephone: (07) 3854 1829 or Fax: (07) 3252 7900. qld@kidsafe.com.au Someone there should be able to suggest how to proceed.

I would most definately send in a letter along with the garment. They will probably be concerned...if not for the safety of young babies, then at least for the public concern should others experience a similar problem (Today Tonight would go NUTS! lol).

Hopefully they'll take them off racks...and check garments before purchasing next time.

Perhaps it would be a good idea if Baby Clothes came with a warning about the dangers of buttons...
