Hi everyone, I have our little girl booked in for her 2 month vaccinations on Monday and was wondering about short term side effects- I hear about peoples bubs having short term reactions- can anyone fill me in on what to expect- does it generally just make them a bit grizzly and tired for a few days- does panadol help the situation? would appreciate any advice so i can prepare myself.
I think i will be more upset about her getting her needles than she will be though :crying:- how did everyone else find the experiance
Cheers.

I'd suggest giving her panadol half an hour before getting her shots.
You can normally expect some grizzliness, soreness around the needle mark, and sometimes a lump under the puncture mark.
A temperature is not uncommon, hence why I suggest to give panadol half an hour beforehand - that way it is on its way to working by the time she is due to have them.. and can work faster.
All are normal and are to be expected.

Thanks- had heard about giving a dose of panadol before but wasn't sure if it was just a wives tale- as the person who told me is an overdoser of panadol- but will give it a go as i cant see it doing any harm,
After my DD had her shots I gave her a milk feed straight after and that settled her very well - she slept soon afterwards with no problems. She wasn't bothered at all.
I have been warned against using panadol BEFORE immunisations by my GP, as latest research shows it may inhibit any reactions that come about from the immunisations that you need to know about (such as a very high temperature, fits, etc).
I was told it is best to wait and see if they need it AFTER the immunisations, and only give it if they really need it. It is the body's natural defence to heat up (get a temperature) to fight illness and if you stop or interfere with this the long term affects can sometimes be worse.
I personally have always found that bubs sleeps much much better that day and only gets a mild temperature for a few hours only that night. I cried more than my bub did, he only cried for a few seconds and then fell asleep!
Good Luck!

I never gave Ebony panadol but did with the other girls and suprisingly have found that giving it after the needle worked better this time
Ebony did get a funny colour pooey and that was it.

Camille ...... I was told that also by my health nurse. With the older boys i did give them panadol before hand but this time around i waited until we got home to see how he went.
Jacob did play up a little but that was about 24 hours after his needles, he seemed to poo heaps more from the rota virus vaccine than anything else but that settled down after about 4 days.

Thanks for all those who offered advice- we survived the first batch of vaccinations with out too many tears- but i have to say she is pretty clingy and grizzly this afternoon, talk about up selling not only did Aaliyah get the works when it comes to needles the doctor also sold a vaccination to me and i ended up with the cervical cancer one- so we both walked out feeling sorry for ourselves. :crying:
